Complete beginner in a dinghy and I've acquired an old Mirror Dinghy (number 52,000 odd) and bought the Mirror book. However, I'm unsure what knot I should be using to tie the cord of the jib forestay to the anchor plate in the bow and maintain tension. The dinghy isn't fitted with an adjuster plate.

Tie a bowline on the anchor plate, take the tail up to the jib forestay eye, then back down through the anchor plate again up to the eye ( you can do this again if you like depending on the length and diameter of rope). Pull hard! to get enough rid tension. Whilst holding the tension do a round turn ( through the eye ) and two half hitches under the forestay eye around all the turns of rope.

Brilliant! Many thanks, I'd been so busy wondering how to lock off on the anchor plate eye I'd completely missed the obvious!
