Racing circumnavigations for dinghies!

We've just seen the leadmines have their fun round the Wight, so what is coming up for smaller boats?
I've just competed in a small-scale 'round the island' race on the Walton backwaters, and fancy another...

The "longest dinghy and board race in Europe"
You have to capsize to get under the bridge!

Mersea Week
7-13 August 2010
This includes a round-the-island race, although part of the course requires a trolley in order to cross the road!

Any more?

Capsizing is optional, although we managed it last year.

Very tempted to do the Round Sheppey, it looks to be an achieveable achievment, if you know what I mean.

Might take a look at the forecast first though! Typically I go to an event regardless, but with this one I think the range of suitable wind strengths is a little narrower than usual...

Perhaps but then don't think of it as a race... its more an
adventure... and you can go exploring in pretty much any
weather!

I'll be there again, Its one of the few events I pencil in
at the start of the year and it will have to be pretty
extreme to keep me at home.

Yup, I was definately thinking of adventure rather than trying to come in the top 20 (not bloomin likely).

My main concern was a light wind meaning the jaunt could take 10 hours (as the race website mentions). I enjoy light wind racing, but not on a 40 mile course....

The Blackwater Sailing Club hosts the RTI's, a race around Osea and Northey Islands in a figure 8, with 2 causeways to cross you have to watch your centre board and rudder.....the topper and mirror classes just go round Northey.  takes place on July 25th and is in aid of the RNLI, starts at 11.30

I did the Round Sheppey three years ago - it was great fun and I'd thoroughly recommended it.

The reservoir I sail on is on an island formed by rivers on all three sides. Topologically speaking then the island is (if I understand this stuff correctly, which admittedly is unlikely) an irregular Torus, and therefore we are sailing round the *inside* of the island every race...

I believe Clevedon S.C. have a Channel race which involves rounding the island.
