Many of the One Designs go for Hyde, they are well made and use good materials and I suspect they are good at develoment.  I have to say they have been brilliant when I've had repairs.

more and more 1 design classes are having thier sails made by north now but in other classes their are too many questions to be asked before a certain sail cut/maker can be named the best and its more a question of whats more suited to your ability, sailing style (are you a bit mad or conservative), your crew weight, your normal sailing conditions and many others

i think so, in the oppys most people had them to. they were always a nice shape though, and performed well i think.

Sorry Guys,

Did not make my question very clear. I was wondering what anyone thought of Kevlar sails?

I understand they are probably the most expensive but does this make them the best?

Having just bought a new Technora Main from Hydes I have to say I'm very very happy with it.

I suspect the carbon-fibre sails used on some AC boats are actually the most expensive, especially since they don't last long. But for mere mortals racing yachts, kevlar is very low-stretch, reasonably long living (as racing sails) and yes, probably the best. Probably over-the-top for dinghy classes though (assuming class rules allowed them).
