Not a chance.

I wouldn't consider taking the 12 (far too many other boats to spear), and the canoe's in the garage undergoing open-heart weight-loss surgery.

and anyway, it's too bloody cold.

Not a chance.

I have already missed the GGP after losing a fight with a cleated sheet in an RS Vision and my chance of doing anything in the near future are slim.

Have you seen Winguru for QM for the next week? From Tuesday to Friday the temperature is not going to get above freezing. Does QM ever freeze over?

I remember sailing the BM years ago in my bright orange GP when it was sooooo cold we were freezing to the decks and had to give up because the control lines were freezing solid. I think the start was delayed because of ice on the pontoons and slipways. I don't think I have ever been so cold whilst sailing - but hey ho you just get warm again.

Back then in the 70/80s I was a member of QMSC for a few years and I never recall it it freezing, I think there is too much movement in the water.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

Last year was bloody cold, all the blocks and cleats froze over on my 200.  my mates canoe self taker froze and as such the boat was virtually un sailable!  that and the sliding seat was a challenge to say the least!!

I would go but the crew would freeze solid!

Russ, what boat are you getting now?

Planning on going in the Lightning. One problem - is there hot water available to unfreeze the water in the bottom of the mast pot?

Back in a 300 Richard, Its looking like its going to be bloody cold!

Why don't you take the 700, or get another crew?  I'm sure you could get one of those BLYM boys?

Yup, will be there in the Moth. Although it was so cold last year the height controls were freezing up - won't sail if it's like that again...

Thats right Steve, hopefully baptising it at the BM. I have always liked the blue boats.  The colour will work fantastically with potential calender shots as it will bring out the colour in my eyes!

I won't, in the RS600 I'll have to start a few seconds after the 29ers, and I don't like my chances of sailing through the dirty air of all the squaddies

Just brought the boat home from the club, as it was going to be very tricky once the snow arrived - now looking at white stuff coming down! This weather might pass through by Sat, you never know! New sail arriving tomorrow (it the van can get through!), so I hope so. If not, I think I might go sledging instead!

unlikely that I'm going to make it... weather and stuff
conspiring against us.

O well

I was hanging wiv da staines massiv disafternoon,

and it was actually reasonably mild most of the major roads were clear the side roads were a little icy. A308 (route to club from M3) was fine. Will icy onto tonigh and go through another freeze/thaw cycel tomorrow, but I would have imagined that QM could have cleared the road 'upstairs' today - and based on the weather forecast doubt it will snow much before Sat am.

Let's keep watching - of course if QM were really clued up they'd be posting in this thread but given their website still looks like it was made in 1873 then I guess we can't ask for too much....

My guess is that if the club is accessible and boats can be launched safely down the steep slope then the event will go ahead. The BM. means too much for the club to cancel without a V good reason.  They overcame foot and mouth for an open several years ago so will be doing all things possible to make this happen.  V. cold last year and looks pokier this year. Wind chill will be acrtic. (approx -16C going by the windspeed).  So wrap up warm and good luck. I'm giving it a late call personally.

Don't think I'll be able to make it. Our club is inaccessible at the moment so can't pick the boat up. (+ I looked over the dam this morning and the windchill was about - lots).

With numerous fatalities round the country due to the weather, and the local council rapidly running out of grit you have to seriously question whether running the event would be a responsible act...

But nobody is being forced to attend and can make a responsible decision about travelling for themselves. If the event does go ahead then I guess the turnout will be low.

I heard there's an Alto racing as well, and an RS100, almost worth a spectate
visit.. I'd like to see how they've prepped the Alto, and the Rs100 v D1
showdown should be interesting, but it's a pursuit isn't it so they stagger
the start? I'd like to see how that works as well.

QM isn't actually that big a deal from here as I remember.

Trouble is there is snow forecast and I'd promised myself a trip up the hills
with a kite and my snowboard tomorrow..

Kitewings er what brand is that?

Foils are favorite if you can blag a Flexi blade say, but I seem to have
flogged every foil kite we ever owned so I shall take my regular kitesurf
kite, last time I went 4 yrs ago now it was the most fun I'd had in ages.

We took my truck cranked up the stereo in the middle of the field and
just had a total blast..

It's way easier than kitesurfing with the added bonus of being able to just
stop have a chat catch your breath then just tool off for another run..

Problem tomorrow may be getting a kitesurf kite small enough, down
here it's forecast v windy and from the East = mental cold, but Goretex
Glove and Snowboard jacketed up, should be cool (pardon the obvious).

Apparently they are waiting for a part for the PC that runs the webcam / weather station and the delivery lorry has probably got lost in the snow...

Neal?

So you the guy from Redoubt?

I couldn't believe anyone from Redoubt could place that high.

In fact I very nearly mentioned it.

Except it would have been embarrassing even acknowledging that I knew
anyone or of anyone or in fact the existence thereof (despite wandering
down there last sunday thinking about taking the Blaze down for Sunday
mornings, only to face an absolute array of negativity on the gate.)

Well done though, better man than me..
