First race warning signal not before 11:57 Saturday.  Usual meal will be available and sailing video's will be shown on the big screen in the evening (when is the next rugby world cup???).

All those who do enter are welcome to come and use the lake on Friday FOC (there will be rescue cover).

Camping and motorhome slots need to be pre-booked as we are strictly limited my our landlords as to how many we are allowed.

Just 3 weeks to go to the Cat Open. On Saturday evening Osprey Catering will be doing a 2 course meal for £8.50 at 7pm in the upstairs bar. We will try out the new flash decor in the bar.
We are buying some exciting sailing dvds to show on the big screen on Saturday evening - this year we plan to be able to show them throughout the evening - last year we could not figure out how to run the machine after the one person who knew how to use it went home

Don't forget to get it in your diary to both sail in the Cat Open AND to attend the evening meal/videos and to catch up on the social scene

Hopefully all it needs is a clean.  Anything obvious that needed doing?

I think you might need to talk to a good sailmaker to make you up a new chute soon.  If only I knew of one I'd give you his details.......

Just 2 days to get your entry in for the Grafham Cat Open. They must be received by Thursday 22 Oct. The Windguru forewcast is great  Mild all weekend with 15mph South wind on Saturday and 22mph SW wind on Sunday

For the Fast Fleet it is important that you attend the briefing as the windward/leeward course will have an interesting and unusual feature at the downwind gate. Make sure that you do not get it wrong..........

Meanwhile get your last minute entries in..........

I know what it is, and it is, shall we say, different.

It is essential you go to the briefing otherwise you won't know what is going on when you get to the leeward mark.

nothing unusual there

last year was manic with the leeward gate so close to the upwind gate

maybe it will help with this?????

hi simon you missed a good one.

i would say the gates worked pretty well, the marks were quite away apart and you could lay the finish line without tacking so it was quite relaxed unlike last year. think there were less boats so it wasnt quite as manic which helped.

Very sad I missed it.  Starting to feel better now.

We spent a lot of time working on the course.  I think numbers were hit by having it before 1/2 term.

it did indeed work, much better than last year.

the port hand mark was obviously the favoured end as it left you on starboard going back upwind through the gate, but there were a few laps where the starboard mark ended up paying off.

We enjoyed the racing very much, even the really windy bits

Thanks to everyone for their time and effort

improvements for next time?-

maybe a bit more room below the leeward marks would be good. They were a bit close to the bank if you had a problem.

Also it would have been better to shorten course for each fleet when the leading boat in each fleet approached the line rather than stopping everyone no matter what lap they were on. The results needed a fair bit of adjusting to end up with the correct finishing order.

Minor points that did not affect our enjoyment though!

Looking forward to visiting again.

Thanks for the comments. The course was much better.

We plan to do a similar thing this year. We have to stay with a pre-entry requirement as it enabled us to ensure that the entries were correctly loaded into Sailwave and it also meant that we could deal with duplicate sail numbers across the classes. This meant that we avoided the results problems we sometimes have in previous years.

The date fior the Cat Open this year is 16/17 October.

Get it in your diaries, folks.

Bob
