Hey hey guys, I'm doing the mersea round the island race this wednesday, and was wondering if anyone else is doing it, or if anyone knew what the wind was gonna be like around mersea on that day?

How do they get the boats across the Road bit?

GRF the Army carry them for you.

Apparently if your not quick out your boat, you'll be carried in the thing!

Huh, lucky you.

We had to carry our boards when we raced round the damn thing.

If you read the entry instruction the army are not there this year so you have to make your own preperations - however i expect that there will be plenty of people and a few randome trailors that you should be alright to wing it.

Good fun race....If you are sailing a fast boat - start in the 20 minutes before high water and go to the strood (road) first (clockwise - leave Island to starboard) as your get the most water there and hopefully by the time you reach the colne there will be more sea breeze blowing you back down the coast.

Don't pick and early time in th hope that you can pick your rounding direction on the day as you'll end up without enough water to go round the back first.

good luck

Thanks for the advice neptune, I have got some people to take the boat across, its only a Topaz Race X (70KG, including all the rig plus what we need to take with us), so it shouldn't be too challenging).

Sorry to disappoint you, but we are going the opposite way to the one you suggested but it should work out okay. We are leaving at 10:30 and going across the Strood at high water, so it should be ok.

I'm hoping this year will be a bit more calm, last year it was blowing a force 5, gusting 6 and we only had 13 stone of weight holding the boat down. It was hairy to say the least (and thats not including what happend when we got the spinnaker up :S), but this year its supposed to be a nice force 3, so it should be all good!!

Just got back from mersea, having finished the race. We did it in 2 hours and 15 minutes, and had the spinnaker up for a lot of the race. Brilliant fun :D
