I was very impressed to see the coverage (30 min Highlights per day) of the racing at Whitstable on "Life" (Channel 186 on Sky)... I only found it by chance.

Couple of years old now I think that was the Nationals in 2007 - possibly 2006, my memory is a bit fuzzy!

Great event, awesome turnout and good coverage. It really helped to attract sponsors.  I even managed to get one for my boat!

Good to hear they are still running it.  You can't beat sky for repeats!

It was 2006. How time flies. I produced, directed (and shot a lot of) the programmes.Given the need for channels of the outer reaches of the Sky platform to keep repeating content as a way of filling their schedules they'll probably still be showing it in another three years time.

I would be really interested to hear more about the process of getting this done and the budget involved if that is information you are happy to share ... how did it all come about?

Hi rick i did an event in ballyholme a couple of years ago that was covered by sky, basically you pay them a shed load of money and they do the rest for you (8 grand i think) 30 minute program, repeated a million times and a dvd copy for everyone who sailed. I will dig out the dvd for details if you like.

I hope the cameras will be turning at the Tornado nationals. A great promotion for the host club, a great opportunity to show the country what the olympics have lost........

Hi Rick, at the time I was employed by LifeTV to develop content for what was supposed to be a new network of regional channels on the Sky platform. The productions were funded by ourselves, nothing to do with Sky (that was just the distribution platform). The total budget for the three half hours was around 10K although the organisers supplied the boat for the on-water shots. It's a shame there isn't more dinghy racing on TV (as opposed to the .............{streaming next bit}..............internet) as the technology (TV) we have today is more than capable of being used in what can sometimes be a hostile environment.

Interested to read your comments.
