Can anyone suggest a good club with a Laser racing fleet
convenient to inner SE London? Other than the docklands
RYA training centres at Wapping and on the Isle of Dogs
who don't race much at all, I can't find anywhere.
I'd really like to train up and contest a series.
Thanks in advance for any guidance/suggestions,
Julian.

Bewl Water in Kent (way)
Bough Beech (geography might be wrong)

I am sure others will be along soon... How far do you want to travel?

Thanks Richard - for my first season, short travelling
is more important to me than an awesome club or a strong
fleet - I'd like to be able to train and race in the
week after work. I live in the docklands and I'm hoping
that there will be somewhere closer than the clubs on
the Thames in West London. Having said that, I'm happy
to drive to wherever I need to!

Queen Mary, Datchet Water ought to suit.

Nah, from Docklands you'd take over an hour (on a good
day) to get there. Julian wants to head east. I think
Erith has a dinghy club. All that area of water is
governed by the Port of London and they may have more
advice.

I have raced at http://www.lcsc.org.uk/ - LONDON  CORINTHIAN  SAILING  CLUB  near to Hammersmith, they have a good racing Laser fleet.

I did a Thames Valley event there last year, its a great club and friendly people too. Launching can only be done at certain times due to the tide.

(its not east though, its west from the Docklands.)

Hi Julian,

We have a pretty good Laser fleet at Ranelagh in Putney with 2 days sailing every weekend and a mid-week series in the Summer which has 6 more races to go. There is also a Laser open on June 21st. Membership is about £45 till the end of the year and berth rental for indoor storage is £10 per month. We are restricted as Corinthian are by the tides and sailing time varies each week.

Check out the web pages at http://www.ranelagh-sc.co.uk - www.ranelagh-sc.co.uk , email from there will reach me. If you look at results you can see how many Lasers are sailing regularly.

When I used to live in SE London (Crystal Palace) I found it was just as quick to drive to Datchet as it was to Weirwood or Bough Beech.  I would recommend taking a look at the map under the "Clubs" button above and spending a few days driving out to some of the clubs that look local and taking a look at how much racing they have going on.  It wouldn't surprise me if you find that it is as quick to get to the Medway clubs (Hoo and Wilsonian), down the A2, than King George or Putney, which are a lot closer.  The Southend clubs (e.g. Thorpe Bay) may also be an option now the A13 is improved.

Certainly a winner in terms of accesibility from Docklands/City (train to Ponders End), but there's no seperate Lser fleet there
