OK I was looking http://yachtsandyachting.com/news/?article=144860 - here and noticed that Ian Percy is "Tactician" and Andrew Simpson is "Strategist" does anyone know what the difference is? Thinking about it there probably is a difference between a stratagy and a tactic but I can quite put my finger on it. Hmmmmm

Or could it just be a way of making sure one of them has the final say?

Tactic is usually looking at boat to boat issues where as strategy is considering the big picture.

Thats exactly it.
Strategist: 'We want to be on that side of the beat'
Tactician: 'We want to be tacking on top of that boat now'

Dosn't really sound like a job for 2 people in a mtach race ... they have other roles too on & off the water I expect ... just job titles really as I expect they both comment on the short & long term issues.

Very simplified version obviously Rick... The full conversation involves a short argument with the bow crew over whether or not its a good idea to switch to a gybe set 3 boatlengths from the windward mark and one of the trimmers complaining about prawn salad for lunch AGAIN
