the only sport people are any good at in England any more is.....

SAILING!!!!!!

unfortunately the chances of the media noticing/remembering this: 0

Have you noticed how kelly holmes gets treated like a goddess, but none of the medallists on the water even get a look in, and lets face it sailing is much better than running.

Sailing: you have to be tactical, quick, fit, respond quickly to constant changes
Running: Just run from a to b as fast as possible - Nuff said

Posted By: lasergurl
Date Posted: 27 Feb 05 at 9:50pm

Win or Swim is right.. all the running is televised.. but sailing.. not even on Sky sports anymore. and if it is .. its once maybe twice a month and is on at like 3 in the morning!

Thanks for the support lasergurl

I think we should push for more coverage of sailing; seeing as the RYA and government want us all to teach for no money as part of their great brainwave 'RYA Onboard' We should get some sailing on TV in return!

Posted By: tgruitt
Date Posted: 28 Feb 05 at 3:00pm

the final score,

England: crap - Ireland: Good

im not Irish but they invented guinness so they're brilliant

I didnt watch the game, I went sailing in a national 12 instead, was brilliant fun but it was -3! Woo

Sailing on TV isn't going to happen unfortunately...
Apparently its "too dangerous" a lot of people disagree with it. The most sailing i ever see on television is that film "wind" and even then its always to favour the americans and say how amazing they are. *rolls eyes* (no offence to any americans but its true...)

... did you see the blatent favouritism from the ref? 2 perfectly good England trys disallowed within 15 minutes!

Every american film based on historic events is to show how good americans are- because of course, it was the yanks who cracked the enigma, oh yes they were the ONLy soldiers on the beaches at the D-Day landings etc. and thats only one topic!

So what im trying to say is...Get in there wales!

I'm sure they are very good at stregthening your calf muscles... unfortunately at my local shoe shop, they dont have a big selection of high heels to fit my size 11 feet. Its a pity as i have a lovely dress which would go lovely with high heels...

ok, well meybe not!

You may just see sights like that out in Minorca !  During my season there, Wednesday nights were staff party nights .... toga party/caribbean party etc. etc. You neve know what theme might be the following week.   Great fun though

Lol im looking forward to going but im slightly nervous as i havent had much experience and minorca only sent me a letter saying this is the date of your flight call us a week before to arange everything

Posted By: C. Petrie
Date Posted: 03 Mar 05 at 4:32pm

ach, y'll be fine!!! nothing to wory about. think about what you may need, make a list, forget most of the stuff on the list and then finally get round to packing at 5am before you fly.. a fail safe method if ever there was one!!

Seriously though, if you're out there for a few months, your best just taking out the basics and buying any 'luxuarys' there.

CD's however are essential but good idea to take out copies (provided you have the original in the first place) as all mine got scratched last year.

Posted By: KnightMare
Date Posted: 03 Mar 05 at 4:40pm

Yeh know the feeling. Imony there for 2months, the last two of the season so its not gona b too busy, and i should be quite good at packing just minimal stuff by then, as i will have done two other months trips already this summer bring on the summer I cant wait.....
PS one months till freedom arghhhhh

From my experience there, if you don't know before you get there, then you'll be teaching adult beginners, teenagers or kids

What teaching and racing experience do you have?

Teaching: I have done some teaching weeks but mostly its just impromptu coaching at my club.

Racing on the other hand, I have been racing cadets for 9 years and have done national and international circuits, (with not that much sucess, but lkots of experience) and have had racing coaching like every weekend for 5/6 years.

BTW, I'm just after sympathy, GF said my eyes lit up in casualty when they offered me crutches, you can really look pitiful if you try....

I suggested I could still sail, if she would pull the boat back up the beach but she didn't seem keen, for some reason! Daren't ask the rest of the fleet, have you seen the age of the average Solo sailor?
