Hi

Looking for some inspiration regarding transporting a Topper Buzz. It's based up in North Wales but need to move it down to the South of England but ... no road trailer!

Does anyone know of any firms which hire road trailers for dinghies?

Or anyone any general advice on long distance dinghy transportation having undertaken such a mission?!

Once it's down south, wouldn't need a road trailer so loathed to spend too much on buying one that wouldn't get much use.

Thanks!

Try borrowing one from someone at your club. Failing that you could hire a big flatbed trailer and put the boat upside down on tyres and the mast on a roofrack.

Can you not borrow a road trailer off a fellow club member?

Also might be worth trying these people, they rent trailers or do the hard work for you, not used them but looks like references are good:

The 4K fleet (and many others) regulary use Sailboat deliveries for all our European events and they are FANTASTIC !!!

Flying to garda sure beats driving yourself there...

If you're borrowing a base ( a good plan), I'd check with the CA, but I think the standard trolley fits a West Mersea 250 base (or compatible). This is a standard base size for a lot of boats in the 12-14" range.

Many thanks for the suggestions - much appreciated.

Will get in touch with the delivery company.

dont go through a company. will cost you an arm and a leg. get some prices but im sure it will be expensive. im based in falmouth at the moment but my boat will be in weymouth from about the 12th onwards until christmas. so i would be happy to lend you my road base (250size) to go and collect it. otherwise i might be going home (n.wales) and picking up my 300 from weymouth on the way back so may even be making the journey myself at some point. i really wouldnt use a delivery company though. i dont like the idea of someone else packing up my boat without me being able to cheack its done properly, padded out etc.

just out of curiosity, its not a buzz from llandudno is it?

Tom these boys deal with boat transport everyday, and ship some of the most expensive boats round the world, i'm sure they could cope with a Buzz and 500 miles!

fair enough. im just rather protective of my 300. i would still never use them but im sure they will do a good job if they are a big, professional company. its the smaller (cheaper?) companies i would beware of as some may not deal with boats often.
