I would agree with that I found a lot of people there to be very cliquey. Aside from when I did the GGP and Les and Strawberry (I think) came over and said hi.

That and I sailed like a muppet of course.

The resemblance to me is startling - right down to my favourite sailing frock!  Can't say as it looks much like my boat though - too many sails!

OK, Well, Vareo will be there ... Watch at the gate for the Astra with half a Vareo on the trailer, and a very pale looking me behind the wheel!

And if your see me on the road .. Watch out! It'll be the first long distance tow I'll have done! (First time the boat is being hitched up is for an hour on Wednesday on quiet back roads!)

James you'll be fine, its not tricky towing, just make sure you don't pull in too soon if you overtake someone! Oh and stick to the towing speed limits!

As for reversing, it goes like this:
Pull into car park,
Put handbrake on
Get out car
Unhitch!!

-------------

Posted By: tmoore
Date Posted: 27 Oct 08 at 9:46pm
what radixon says really. when i towed for the first time i was pretty nervous. just remember that your stopping distance will be as if you had a fully laden car. just go steady and you'll be fine. remember a spare wheel just in case......

You forgot step 3 ... "Car into neutral" .. Dont want the car trying to drive against the handbrake and stalling now, do I?

The get out plan is definitley a good one, but a friend has offered to teach me how to reverse with a trailer, so I'm going to take him up on it. (Sooner I learn, sooner we do B+E)

My main worry isnt overtaking etc, its cornering! Dont want to have to try and explain how I wrapped the boat around a lamppost 200 meters from the sailing club!!

Driving with a loaded trailer is in someways easier (or at least, more pleasent) than driving with an empty one. With an empty one, it either bounces all over the placers making a hell of a racket, or (if it's a multi-stacker) puts silly weight on your tow bar, making the steering less responsive (less front wheel grip!).

So, make sure you secure the boat well! Tie the boat to the road base, not the trolley.

Posted By: Scooby_simon

Guys, I learned to tow pulling a made up Dart 18!!!!

Yes it's not easy!  My advice is go out and find an empty car park and test out what happens when reversing.  Practice practice practice!!!!!!!

I find the trick to reversing is to ignore what the car is doing, and concentrate only on the trailer.

Posted By: Merlinboy
Date Posted: 28 Oct 08 at 12:34pm

I find the trick is to get out the car and un hitch the boat!!!

But seriously Jim is right, watch the trailer and think ahead!

Al, as Dave is in Holland having to steal people's internet to get online... i believe he wont be able to make the inlands!
i was planning on going in my i14 a couple of weeks back but got to go on a lifeguard course this week with a exam on Saturday for FREE. so that meant i couldn't go plus my boat is currently in pieces lacking fittings.

we will be at the Slammer however for 3 weekends, wiggling the stick on Dave's B but not able to do the 30th.

Another thing to remember when reversing is to do it on tick over then as the trailior starts to do something wrong then you have time to correct it,But the best in someone elses club is to unhitch.

As for towing when you are driving normally on main roads the trailior will be fine & when on the bendy stuff drive to the outside of the bends ( right hand bends keep left ) that way the trailior will always be in your lane.

Try & do the main braking in a straight line & the trailior will stay straight & safe.

Overall it`s not that hard unless top gear are doing it.

It got 98.4 kph on a speed run in Adelboden, Switzerland. First thing in the morning, freshly serviced skis. That was scary! My aim was to break 100 by the end of the week but that's the fastest run I got.

61.2 (roughly) is a good starting point.

the above was shussing down a red run!  I need to get to Les Arcs and get on the flying K; next goal is 80mph, then 90, then 100!

les you missed out mate, some spectacular racing in the last race, picked up
to a F3/4, with the 9ers capsizing at the leeward mark, shame the race
comittee couldnt set a course for sh*t! Me and ratface had a few good races
in the B, beating the RS800 2012 proto over the water! (made it even better
as their our hydrs race coaches!!). Came flying through the cadet fleet at the
end, going full whack with the kite, much swearing involved, and a few
complaints from the coaches....

hmm not quite a call to noble, but a damage report indeed! Right here goes,
Snapped a tiller extension, snapped the main sheet, snapped the rope that
holds the trampoline on (that resulting in a swim!), and a few more chunks
out the daggerboard, all in all a good days swim! Perfect sailing weather it
was 2! Gusting 32knts think was the max, with only one capsize! (pretty
good compared to the rest of the fleet! Some nice big waves to bounce off
as well...

And les where were you! Was chatting to the 5k CA and they were expecting
your prescence! This was amid discussions about a foiling 5 tonner

It's not an awful idea to rig a secondary set of tramp lacing, slightly loose, so that if the main one goes you get caught!
