just had a brain wave.

i know were notalowed to touch/grab and crash into marks but it says nothing about the aancor chains and so on.

i know i cant smash into the comity boat but is there a rule against grabbing its ancor chain till about 2 mins or so then pick my position on the line?
just something i thought of while waiting for the tide

Yes. You'll almost certainly be on the wrong side of the line, and find yourself with no way of getting onto the front row.

the 2 handers areound here are rare normally i have about 5 other boats on the line

no problem for room and port tack flyers arent as confusing as there is less boats to avoid

a well its always good to think out of the box

Rule 45 says:

HAULING OUT; MAKING FAST; ANCHORING

A boat shall be afloat and off moorings at her preparatory signal.

Thereafter, she shall not be hauled out or made fast except to bail out,

reef sails or make repairs. She may anchor or the crew may stand on

the bottom. She shall recover the anchor before continuing in the race

unless she is unable to do so.

So, provided you can claim the pin end buoy or the committee boat as part of your anchoring system, and take it with you when you start , you might get away with it...

We do this at my sailing club where our start line is 5m away from moorings, so on a light air day sail/paddle out to a close mooring and hold on until our 3min gun then drift to the line.
