The 2008 Tornado Nationals are being hosted by the Mumbles Yacht Club 6-8 September.  However, to date only two teams have Pre-entered.  This makes life extremely difficult for the organisers as we would like to put on a good social programme as well as great racing!
If you are intending to race please could you pre-enter.  It's simple and quick, just click on the photo link on the MYC website homepage.

Many thanks

Sorry I can not make it this year as I have a Radial Qualifier on the same weekend which I must attend if I wish to go to the Worlds next year.

However if anyone wants to come and do some training in Weymouth the following week, I have put this time aside as a warm up for Sail for Gold...

Have you not heard the news Jon Emmett, Sail for Gold is for Olympic Class boats only.

The word on the street is, including BBC declarations, it's out of the 2012 games. November is clearly just a formality. Perhaps this is why there are no boats entered for the Mumbles event.

My wife is learning to sail in a Radial, I thought it was a women's event? Or at least it seems to be at Olympic level...

Yep yep I am very aware that Tornados are not in the Sail for Gold regatta but it does not stop me sailing one the week before!!!

The Radial Qualifiers are for everyone Men, Women, Juniors, Youths and Masters Smile

Okay I never considered it to be anything but a boat for the women. Thanks for the insight.

I do find it hard to believe that a Radial sailor would own a Tornado and still feel great or even bother to spend time sailing a Radial. Kind of like always driving a Ferrari then getting into a Punto.

The television coverage of the Radial during the recent medal race kept making reference to it being a great boat for women in developing countries to get into sailing because it is the least technical boat -- which is a massive contrast to the Tornado.

But then I'm multi hull biased and that's a whole other topic!!

Unfortunately I've had a mess up with Holidays and can't make mumbles, but I would have loved to have attended.

I'm sure the Weston guys will be making the trip, they are just disorganised. I will give them a nudge.

p.s. RichardR, I also own a laser with full rig and radial, to be honest though the radial is for the girlfriend

Interesting there are far more men sailing radials than Women. Although there are probably more Women racing now the Radial is an Olympic class for Women. There are currently 8 Women in the top 30 of the Radial ladder.

Racing the Laser is very different from the Tornado but just as exciting and in terms of the distance between boats on the water tends to be much closer... with everyone using pretty much standard kit so the absence of development keeps the cost affordable for the vast majority of sailors.

Great shame there are only nine boats. I bet there is some great racing with most of the Skandia boys currently swimming 49ers!
