Race 9 for the Lasers has just finished on the ISAF website  http://www.sailing.org/olympics/resultscentre.php - http://www.sailing.org/olympics/resultscentre.php and it looks like Godison will get Silver at worst and is odds on for a Gold.

18 point ahead going into the medal race. So if the Swede wins with Goodi last the Swede gets it on the medal race result. (I think). Otherwise gold number 3.

Yes Goodi just needs to avoid DSQ and then make sure the Swede doesn't win.

Will we see a repeat of Ben vs. Scheidt?

Shame Penny seems to have sailed herself out of contention...

Yep steady as she goes...  Goodison has built up a commanding lead in a Ben stylee with very little comment from the sailing or national press.  Good luck to him for tomorrow - must be very satisfying after Athens.

Yeah but it's only as of now.. that he's had that lead - go back to the end of yesterday's racing at it wasn't so crystal clear.  I texted the facts to the Beeb @ 09:27 and it got a good write up on their http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/live_action/7567224.stm - olympic ticker @ 09:37

I think Paul has to just not be last tomorrow to take the Gold - Not a bad weeks work if you ask me

I wonder why Paul isn't getting much coverage despite the fact he is actually more likely to get gold than Ben was going into the medal race. To my mind Paul's result is more impressive as there is no equipment advantage and he has managed to claw back from 8th at the start of the week to the 18 point lead he has now

I agree, especially to have a couple of wins from a 43 boat fleet.

No doubt he will when he collects his third gold ... in 2016 ...

Ben's history of success and continued dominace is what make him newsworthy.

And I'm not sure you can say ben had an equipment advantage either...

Equipment advantage was probably the wrong thing to say, what I meant was Ben would have developed the rig to suit his sailing style and had a choice of boat to take, which would have contributed in an admittedly small way to his success, compared to the Lasers which cannot do any rig or boat development as part of their campaign

Apparently, he ended up using the same hull as last time. His light wind sail would have been a special job, but I suspect the one he used in the medal race not so far off the off the shelf stuff from North, certainly looked like a 'normal' Technora cloth.
He uses Wilke masts, so while off the shelf isn't quite the right word as the bend would be tailored to requirements, still a publicly available (if not so cheap) mast.

Surely they all had the equipment developed to suit their own sailing styles, so no actual advantage, just no disadvantage. In the conditions they have had, it must have been 99.5% down to the sailor.
