Hi all,

I thas come up at our club that we need to look at N12 py numbers as a committee. One of our sailors has just purchased a very new double bottomed boat and we are all fairly confident that it sails faster than 1093 and he is consistently winning throughout the wind ranges by significcant margins.

We were thinking of giving him a py of 1080 which we believe would be fairer, does anybody so this at their club?

Thanks Adam

Can you give us the age or sail number of the boat. This would give us more
of an idea to offer advice.

Is he/she the best (or one of the best) sailor at the club?

On a river like yours a N12 will excel against other types of boat. The N12's as a  class have good returns so the yardstick will be pretty accurate.

I'd suggest you all buy some N12's and enjoy going as fast as he is.

I'd agree that the N12 PY is about right. We did quite a bit of racing in our club h'cap and got what I would have considered a fair result in 3490.

You can adjust PY's for local conditions and you should do that as long as you are not just personaly handicapping the best sailor.

Thanks for the advice,

Rick I see your point and understand we must be carefull not to punish his good sailing, He is one of the better sailors at the club yes, so I agree with you we dont want to personally handicap him.

I think it just seems to be that the N12 excels with this sort of river sailing as said by jack, so we may need to adjust it slightly to suit our local conditions, while being carefull not to give a personal handicap (challenging).

Thanks Adam

Seems you have the right idea; perhaps ask him what he'd consider fair. No doubt he dosn't want to win all the time and would relish a better challenge.
