I am planning to put a B14 kite on my Hobie 16 using a Hobie Tiger spinnaker pole and bag system.

Has anyone done this before and how did you get on?

Also how could you work out a PY number?

Thanks for any help.

Is a Hobie 16 mast tall enough?

PY are not "worked out" they are provided by the RYA from racing returns made by clubs - so I'm afraid you wont get a PY for your Hobie unless you get a few others to do the same thing and enter lots of races - in which case they'll estimate one and adjust when they have some results.

Sorry, I don't want to sound negative, give it a go and it should be lots of fun.

You'd be able to work out the ISAF SCHRS handicap by putting the details of the kite into the spreadsheet - see http://www.schrs.com - www.schrs.com .  By my reckoning it works out at 1.10 instead of 1.16 for a standard H16.  If you need to to race under PY you could convert the exist PY by multiplying it by 1.10/1.16.

The principal behind the RYA PY system is that any boat should be able to get a PY.  If a boat doesn't have a Primary Number (PN) or Secondary Number (SN)your club can allocate a Trial Number (TN) without having to involve the RYA.  At my club we've done this for several cats (Stealth and Spitfire) where there are no RYA primary or secondary numbers.

Hang on, B14 and H16? Were you at Vass last October by any chance?
