Opps.

Guess this is what happens when you let people who are not used to sailing multi's out when it's blowing a little. (well 20 knots ish)

Looks like the boat will be out for a while with a broken mast and rear beam.

Ed Baird, who was onboard, provides some insight into what happened: “As we were bearing away, always the highest risk situation on a multi-hull, both the leeward and the central hull dug into the water and the rudders came out. From then it was out of our hands...."

Perhaps some planning for the bear-off might have helped; I assume that they either did not ease enough during the initial bearoff or too much and the sails powered back up just at the wrong time.  Also reading between the lines, I assume Alain Gautier was not on board when it happened?

Bit of a bugga, smashing  someone elses boat!

Apparently Gaultier was on baord, but he was the only multi-expert there. Still, expensive mistake to make on a rental.

the insurance company will say bugger it, don't let the Swiss use it again,
and expect your premiums to go up next year!

Luckily everybodys ok, could be a very interesting Americas cup if we
have a day or two of wind!

Look at the text under the photo..

It says Alingi are the defender of the 34th AC - I thought the next round was the 33rd. Or am I wrong?
