Just been reading the latest mag. mark rushal talks about the top leech telltales breaking 25% of the time or 10% of the time. what the hell does breaking mean??

If I am right and could stand corrected its when they fly the same way or not, ie one flies in a different direction.

I am sure someone may be along soon to correct me, but thats what I recon.

streaming should be smooth. Breaking means they're not drooping straight down, but neither are they streaming quite "right".

It tends to disappear behind the sail when it's 'breaking' in the case of leech telltales.
As Al said, in simple terms it's breaking if it isn't streaming normally...

I'm disappointed nobody has suggested stronger tell tales...

Nice one Rupert

I'm sure there are some development jockeys out there who could suggest some spanky carbon composites which will always stick out at the desired angle and never actually break, may need some further thought with regards to rolling, flaking and stowing though.

I cut lengths of plastic out of coke bottles , about 6 inches long or 0.00006km in metric by 21/31 of an inch wide   0.00000012 km

I bend one end about 1 inch or 0.000001 km  over a ruler and wobble back and forth untill it becomes pliable but doesn't break , which allows it to move easily , the short tab left I attach to sail with a soft ally rivet (for easy replacement )

and finally spray each Tell tale with a unique colour from a rainbow , so when my crew tells me which tell tale colour if flappin out of turn I know what part of the sail it corresponds too  (i get faint when I look Up )

Job done works for me
