The distributors Marathon Leisure have a http://www.marathonleisure.co.uk/acatalog/Fdealer.html - web page for finding a local dealer.  Select your area, then Boat Maintenance then Treadmaster

Thanks for getting back to me.

Have you ever used Treadmaster yourself?  What do you think of it?  Is it any good?

Treadmaster is great for nonslip, but it is heavy. I have it on my Finn where weight isn't an issue.

It is abrasive on the knees though, and I'd be incined to use Progrip on anything else than a Finn. I did the whole rear deck of my IC with it and was grateful for it.

You should try using the smooth pattern treadmaster its not such a harsh feeling design, in fact hense the smooth pattern name it is a lot softer and kinder.

What is this Progrip material that was mentioned???

what made you put it on  your canoe?

Progrip is pretty much dinghy standard now! Its lighter, softer and just alround better then Treadmaster! I think it is some kind of foam based material! good struff! once i have removed all the treadmaster from my IC then i will be progripping it up!

What about sugar soap? Easy to do yourself and does the job well if not better.

EDIT

I don't think that is the right word for it... You mix sugar into soap, sand the boat down, paint it with the paint and its very grippy. I will post a picture in a few minutes of it on my boat.

ANOTHER EDIT

Pictures are on the other computer I will post one later this evening.

Doesn't it get a bit slippy having soap in your boat?

Chris Bridges' "sugar soap" is rather painful on the knees and can shred wetsuits in no time. Besides, it's nowhere near as grippy as Progrip. And it doesn't come in funky colours (mind you, I have never seen any Demerara progrip ).
Makes your boat look like it's covered in that woodchip wallpaper from the 60s. Do you think it comes in magnolia?

Sugar soap wont take This stuff off!!  You use sugar sop to take te Greese off walls beforre you paint them dont you ??  The treadmaster on my canoe i think is held down by some kind of resin! i am going to have to get heat gun on the stuff me thinks!

Don't forget that the treadmaster will (should) have been weighed as part of the hull weight, so a reweighing would be necessary if you replace it with something lighter (subject to class rules, blah blah blah)

its good enough for a 49er because your never on your knees

Guess depends what boat it is but its grippy enough for me.

It doesn't actually look too bad, when I post the pictures you will see (when i find them). It looks blotchy on the pictures but its a sold silver colour to go with the rest of the boat and its just bumby, you can't really tell, I wouldn't say it looks like 60s wallpaper...

I have a few KG to play with so i'm not worried luke, i have taken out the stumpy mainsheet tower as well, and with the carbon nomex deck and other bits and bobs i would hope she is fairly light but i will get her re weighed once complete!  having said that whats the point having a light hull but heavy tin rig!!

Whats wrong with just sugar? A common thing for 9er sailors to do is to cover wings etc in a thin layer of epoxy and stand down wind and chuck brown sugar in the air once the epoxy or whatever had set just wash it with warm water "sugar disolves" just leaving a nice grippy surface

OH RIGHT! I take back what I said about 60s wallpaper... More than 80s spacesuit LOL

Just kidding, Chris, it's very nice. And I can see it's a strong deterrent if anyone wants to kneel down!.

sorry somehow missed that post.

You can do it with epoxy or paint I think, same way of doing it. It is grippy enough, cheap, and if its a boat like a 9er keeps your crew off the deck

Epoxy is definitely the better way, but paint the cheaper

Has anyone used the treadcote paint?  I am thinking of purchasing some but it only comes in 1litre tins!  how many sheets does this realistically cover?
