Don't go to carsington! They speak funny!! NO OFFENCE!!
For largs as (i told you), there are two sailing areas, so if your into charts make sure u check out both areas, and you will have a great time at largs, it's brilliant! Take a coat & watch out for jelly fish!
Happy sailing!

Stokes is a good spot, camping on a public green next to the club with your boat next to you, but the tide is "all-powerful", and you'd need a solent tidal atlas to understand it! Prevailing wind is SW, but it doesn't always turn up. Anything with north in it will be offshore and gusty, though if you go far enough, the IOW will make anything from the south into an offshore breeze! It's like most places, you need to turn up and use your experience to see whats happening or likely to happen.

You won't need tide tables at Chew....

Londoners are Northerners, aren't they? They are from the South coast, anyway! Any further north counts as foreign....

Harry,

there are venue guides for loads of places on the Daily Sail, if you are a subscriber. I am assuming you are checking them out for events, not looking for a new club seeing as Largs & Stokes are at opposite ends of the country!

Well, you might be deciding where to go for university.

If I'd thought about it I might have chosen somewhere further south than Edinburgh where I gave myself frostbite team racing on a loch that was half covered in ice thick enough to stand on! I have great photos somewhere of six larks 'moored' alongside the ice with the teams changing boats by skating from the red fleet to the green fleet. brrrrrrr.

assuming you stop wasting time on forums and knuckle down to some hard work (unless you choose something like psychology, in which case, carry on!)

I've heard the trouble with Southampton is that there are so many sailors trying to get involved that they can't cater for them all.  For instance if you haven't already made a name for yourself on the team racing circuit you might as well not bother because all the places are taken by the stars.

As an ex-Southampton uni sailor - it was mailto:cr@p - cr@p , don't bother.

You only sail at a puddle the size of a fish pond at Ringwood, it is surrounded by trees so there is no wind and as Redback said, the sailing is only set up for the in few who all know each other from the existing youth and team racing circuits.

If you are already in the crowd, fine, but very difficult to break into otherwise.

Also, if you think you will take your own boat and sail at a local club on the Solent then you need a car which is great for an overdraft but gives you less beer money.

Strathclyde was better - at least you get to sail at Largs and you can get there on the train very easily.

There is a reason why last year TTT was the largest university team racing event outside of the nationals... Its in Newcastle!  Great sailing, great city, great time!!

Also getting to the club is easyon weekends, 25 min on the metro (the club is 10 min walk from the last stop on the line so you can sleep on the train) then stumble downhill to the club whatever state you are in from the night before, sorted!!

This year we are running the BUSA finals at Derwent.  For the second year in a row now we are running a yacht racing weekend out of largs with teams joing us from ANUSC and SUSA.  Not to mention sailing every weekend of the year, saturday and sunday.

In case you need another reason, the rent is cheaper up here, which leaves more money for beer/sailing/food.

See you up here soon

And venue reports Jim Soltensal (think its spelt like that) is the name you need to look out for, a crazy trainer but does the best venue reports I know hes done Rutland but cant tell you off the top of my head if hes done the others you were asking for.
These are on a website, and i cant remeber the name soz.
