Okay then I think I may have made a small boo boo........again

Two boats on the run into the line lets call them A and B!!

Boat A is on Starboard and is in the lead

Boat B is on Port and has given up on the fight - me

Boat A crosses in front (just) of boat B.  Boat B has to bear away to go behind A

Boat A Tacks onto Port, and is now 1/2 boat ahead

Boat B is on the Layline for the committe boat and keeps going squeezing boat A around the wrong side

Am I a bad person?  I think in hindsight that I probably am especially as he was miles ahead on handicap

The ends of the line (whether buoy or committee boat) are 'marks of the course' (i.e they start finish or bound a leg) and therefore  A would be entitled to room assuming he tacked into the position before the  2 boatlengths circle as he was overlapped inside.

Not actually quite sure what the situation would be if he tacked inside the two boatlengths..???

Maybe you're owing someone a beer....

It would be tight on the 2 boat lengths - I am a Flying Fifteen and he is a Laser, so a bit of difference on the boat lengths.

If 2 boat lengths are his, probably okay.  If mine, probably not

What I dont understand is why he just did not slow down a touch when crossing, call me and force me to tack and then tack himself - Game over

I would say that you owe the Laser guy a beer given you description....(ie both beating on port into the line. He would have been inside boat overlapped at the 'zone').

Could be wrong though.....when 2BL is imnportant it is of the closest boat (so much closer for a Laser than a Flying Fifteen).

Hard one to call without a drawing of the situation...

Hi

Boat B is on the Layline for the committe boat and keeps going squeezing boat A around the wrong side -- why squeeze when you already have got him/her on handicap bad person!!.

I am sorry to say this but if you just squeezed because you could, bear in mind that the boat A properbly knows that he/she F**ked that up & rubbing his /her nose in it will not inprove relations. Also he/she may well now decide to push you round the long way when ever they can so enjoy the fruits of your labours.

Hi Bert

Sorry mate wrong way around. He had already got me on handicap, but you are still right - I did it because I could!!

That said, in all probability, he have done the same if reversed, so all fair there.

Sailing against the same people every week allows you to develop an understanding of these who is going to do what

In that situation is it worth it? You can't beat him anyway so why potentially screw his race up?

I'd have let him in i'm afraid.

In proper class racing however i'd be far more ruthless.

I was the Laser in question...

i misjudged how close the flying 15 (contender 541) was to the layline and thought i could cross his bow then tack and finish.

I'm not sure about the 2BL, was more botherd about being able to tack out the way when i realised how close i was to the commitee boat. My bow must have been inches from the safety moored up to the committee boat

It has always been a rule that i've never understood however, so the same rules apply as at a mark of the course...2BL, water etc...?

If Matt's crewing for your dad, is Wendie crewing for Chris?
