Does the mast have a hole in it ?

This would be my guess.

Old T bird masts weren't sealed.  If yours is one of these then it will be really hard to get upright.

that boat had a hurricane mast on it origionaly - was one of the few white formula  Tornado sports built prior to them going to the new olympic spec (by a few years)

Hurricane mast usually watertight , but heavy all the same

solution get a nice light sealed carbon one ,Si Northrop had one for sale .

or put on the beef !

  Dear Mr Catmandoo

the mast that i have on the boat aint a 5.9 mast as they are about 2 feet too short.

and Nessie did the going down the mine look as good as it felt

watever , if it fills with water your on to a looser , which it sounds like yours did praps , sailed tornado's for 4yrs , only capsized once (was before kites introduced ) once was enough .

Nessie bin mining then ,, sounds like he needs wings

not me mining - tornado mining

missed the actual nose-dive, just the ensuing 1/2 hour or so of p*ssing
about trying to get it the right way up again!

its the way he tells em !

1/2 hr not bad , took me 2hrs and 10 peeps in the end  but was with an unsealed mast and tide ripped us into mouth of marina where mast got stuck in kelp for good measure , that was a laugh !

think it was just after that we decided to concentrate on the 5.9

yon southerners with carbon sealed sticks seem to be able to capsize in a race , right it and continue unaided . and even the newer sealed tin ones .

yes, Mr Do.

Big cats can be dangerous (but a little pussy never hurt anyone)

can seriously affect your sailing prospects though if you tamper with them without caution - or more like precaution !

(was going to follow on with my normal bracket banter re eating , but best not !)

goes back to the hurricane section comment re weight then ,

you can normally tell if they are leakers when boat is upright water pisses out in gr8 jets which I pressume you didn't see .

otherwise your back to putting on the beef , getting a carbon mast or fitting a righting pole but you might get a ribbin for that , Americans seem to use them a lot , check out http://www.catsailor.com/ - http://www.catsailor.com/  chat in their website forum and pop up adverts for righting poles

Its nice and deep at Ness so if you capsize there you could virtually step ashore whilst boat is still uppsy doon !

Mr H will get it up for you
