Hi all,

I've just finished the first stage of extending the Forum Membership features so that you can display news from your favourite class(es) on the front page in a format that you want.

What do you think? Does it all make sense? If not, how could I improve it?

Also what other membership features do you want? I'm most of the way through a campaign manager at the moment that lets you combine your crew and calculate weights easily but need to know what you all want out of the system.

I need a beer now... too much programming

Like the new look (working late?!).  The campaign manager sounds good, crew weights etc sounds like a good idea.  Maybe having an online diary of events would be good, and when Y&Y hears of events that your classes are invited to it sends you a note and puts it on your diary.  Oh and also having all the little bits of sailing on tv noted down

hope this helps.

Sounds fantastic - it will take me a few days to absorb.

I've just changed my page.  Works well now that I understand. Click on the settings thing at the top of the page and it all becomes clear.

Hello again,

I've now made it so you can choose the size of the picture on the front page. If you go to News Preferences you now can choose small, medium, large or extra large to adjust the width of the photo. You can now get a much bigger picture if you've got a high resolution monitor or smaller if you're using an old 800 x 600 pixel display.

Hi Mark,

Any chance of including the pocket PC layout in the membership options?  Perhps as a 'none' option as the image size.

I've thought about customising the Pocket PC version but there is actually very little to change on it - there currently aren't any photos but i could make it an option to have small one's in.

I will look at customising the news on the pocket version as well - consider it added to the list... though the list is quite long

What about adding the Vendee Globe and Ellen's round the world attempt to the favourites?

I notice you already have the Commodore's Cup listed as a "class"

how can you get onto it? You have to login first to get your account up, where do you go from there?  Make it more obvious on how to get back to the yachts and yachting website.

Yeah, it can be quite confusing getting away from the
forum to the other features.

Good work though...

Click on settings at the top of the page.  To get back just click on the Y&Y at the top left of the page.

I agree about making it go back to the front page of the site once you've changed your membership settings - I'm just trying to work out a way of doing it.

At the moment just click the YachtandYachting.com logo at the top left to go back to the main page anywhere on the site.

The main problem I've got is that I'm combining the forum settings with the membership settings so there is only one login - I've got to pass a message to the update setting page to tell it where to go next...

Phil, I'll look into adding events to the class list - the old Commodore's Cup being a class page was a redundant class I had temporarily set up. I'll think up a way of adding all the events though.

I have only just noticed the membership features. Mainly because I am sneakly trying to look at the page with internet explorer as a tiny page on my computer screen so my boss sat behind me can't see exactly what I am looking at!!

Is there any chance of making the 'flashy' bits of the screen, a little less obvious?!?!?!

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Hi Sarah,

Unfortunately not, the site has to pay for itself and those flashy bits are the things that bring in the money - even if it does make it a bit obvious when you're surfing at work! Sorry

For all those that tried to put in a sailor profile yesterday or the day before, I'm sorry if it came up with a 'This page cannot be displayed' message - totally my fault. I had forgotten to put in checks for data that had no value added. All now fixed (last night around 10pm...)

can i ask do you work a 24 hour day?

Sometimes I think so...

The job does have an upside in summer when I get to go sailing lots

That seems a long way away at the moment

Camapign Manager is great, nice one Mark, many thanks.  Just got mine up and running, I will have to email you the rest of this years B14 events as they are not all online, but aside from that i can't fault it.  Congratulations!

Hi Phil & Stuart

I can't believe the response so far - Campaign Manager has been running for less than 24 hours and we already have 50 campaigns going!

Really glad you like it - it does at the moment totally rely on the fixtures being in the system but I am going to make it so that you can add your own fixtures if they are not. I will then be able to check them to see if they should go on the main calendar.

Lots and lots of work went into it and I'm really glad it's being used! I think I'm going to have a couple of beers this weekend

Cheers, Mark

Hey there. If this is a repeat that you read, I apologize. I just posted an "issue" I have a Frers 36 in the States. Great boat but hard to one design do to the lack of numbers built. Anyhow, to starta Campaign I need to select from the list of O/D boats. Could you add PHRF as a type? Weight limits are on regional PHRF websites and am happy to help you get them. I just feel badly starting a cmpaign in a boat I do not own (J 109). I think this information will scare my crew rather than wizz them up. Thanks in advance. BD

No problem!

PHRF is now added as a class - you'll be able to enter your own weight limit so that should now all be ok.

If you've got any more questions I'll try to help as much as possible.

Cheers, Mark
