Subject: My Boat’s better than yours!!!

After Speedygonad's cage rattling thread, lets have a thread about why certain boats are better than others. Post a boat that is better than the previous post's boat with ONE reason of why only!
I'll start off:
LASER
PS: Legitimate reasons only please, no personal vendetta's about the people who sail the boats!! I don't sail lasers either!!!
edit for spelling

So what's the connection between those nouns and a 49'er ? And Wikipedia Docu-fiction in action.
It doesn't say anything about 49'ers and RS800's on those links. . I think you may have got a bit lost on this one..........

 Now we're getting somewhere!
I would like to back the Topper as well, because you can sail it up a shingle beach with no damage to the boat (and minimal damage to the helm - I'm a living proof) and scare paddling children, passing dogs and waddling joggers in the process!

On the contrary, I've heard they're awful to trapeze from that deep cockpit. A former Vortex sailor at our club found it almost impossible for some reason.
Surely you find the 29'er easier to trapeze, Helz (apart from the wobbliness).

Think if you were to sail the foiling 18 and the normal 18 hard, the normal 18 would be miles ahead. The videos of the foiling skiff look quick but is it that quick for an 18? Plus when the 18 gets going, hardly any of the hull is in the water and you can go for more powerful sails that don't need to be cut to aid the boat when foiling.

I'm just not convinced and will be very interesting to see the foiling 18 compete against a competitive non-foiling 18, if that ever happens. Saying that though, the Hyrdroptere design is quite large in scale and is very successful, but reckon the foiling 18 needs a whole new rig developed with new sail plan to be successful. It works just now as it is but looks like it could be optimised much further.

What is the take-off windspeed for Cherubs and 12ft Skiffs, anyone?
|
Posted By: Ginger_69
Date Posted: 16 Mar 07 at 10:14pm
ye i know the 18 is prob faster upwind and prob a bit smoother ride downwind but the 12 just looks fun.
i know for a fact that most newish cherubs takeoff on about 10kts depending on the helms and the smoothness of the wind, and the 12 is prob about the first sign of wind!
Ur right the Daemon isnt going to be any diffrent beacuse their was 2 cherub that came 1st and 2nd in the 12ft national last year!
