The Notice of Race for the above event has been posted on the Mumbles Yacht Club website.  www.mumblesyachtclub.co.uk  Please note that there will be one amendment.  If the conditions are favorable only three race will be run on Sat 12th May.  Race 7 will be a long course = approx 6.5 miles per lap, time duration around 2hrs.  This race will count as part of the Nations Cup series for the F16's but will not count for the 'A' Class National Championships.  Should the weather conditions prevent the long course race taking place then the current NOR will take effect.

mark p. sorry i am a little confused by your last message. what high horse are the A,s on, i am intending on going to mumbles to have fun do you think i would drive for 9 hours with the intention of having a crap time and then drive for 9 hours to get home again.

It's ok Oz man judging on my last caravan south with my A I may well use a high horse or even a low one for that matter as it will probably be much more efficient and less prone to breakdowns than the discovery-still managed to have fun though!!!!!!!!

Just to clarify my post I am  also slightly confused that a couple of 'A' sailors are willing to shorten a National Championship Series  as they don't want a proposed long course race to count.
The feed back I've had from the F16's has been very positive in this respect.  As Scooby has already confirmed the idea of a long run and subsequent beat is something that is impossible to most pond sailors.  Other 'A' sailors thought it would be a welcome break from the standard courses usually sailed at weekend Regattas and thus would set different challenges.
Presently there is a real buzz about the 'A' Class Cats, they look like the dogs bits and subsequently a lot of interest is being produced, being a bit more susceptible to a slight change in a racing programme rather than just blanking it straight off as a non starter would IMO also help promote the a Class which is willing to try different ideas.  At the end of the day it is a "development" Class.

Dont want to get in a Bun fight here but a few points to make clear.

We agreed at our AGM (A Class) in October with Mumbles to have a 10 race series at the 07 Nationals with a Medal Race, No mention of a Long Distance race at that time.

The NOR States 12 races so if we lose 1 for the Long Distance we will still have 1 more than we were expecting if we dont want to participate in the Long Distance.

The Class was asked (last Thursday - all seems a bit lastminute.com to me) its opinions on the Long Distance and those with them expressed them, resulting in a compromise which suits everyone equally.

My personal opinion is to keep the long distance from being part of our nationals, i am not against innovations i am looking forward to the medal race and sail 2 of the most innovative boats out there but you dont see many (if any ??) cat classes including a long distance race in a serious championship for good reason.

So i am assuming that if we are on schedule and the weather is fine the LD will go ahead and not affect the nationals and those that want to do it can so isnt everyone happy ???

Also looking forward to any long distance race including this one however I believe it should be kept separate from a national championship which is a test of course racing rather than endurance racing. On the SNECCA circuit we include the 4" race as 1 of 4 in our traveller series however this could never double up as a national championship.

Looking forward to Mumbles whether travelling by high horse, discovery or sheltie pony

Richie.

couldnt agree with the last two posts more. counting a long distance race towards a nationals trophy says more about the sailors that like the idea than it does about the guys that do not like the idea. Then to say the people that do not agree with you are"on there high horse" and "do not want to have fun" is a bit rich if you ask me.

personally if i can sit out the long distance it will give more time in the bar not having fun

OK, I get your point.
Please remember this is a long course Not a LONG DISTANCE RACE.  The Beat / Run will be under 2.5 miles if we go for a trapezoid the reaches would be approx 1.5 miles long and a total time duration of around 2hrs.
It's a great course sailed frequently by the MYC Cats.  Tornado's have done the run in under 12 minutes so I hope you can keep yourself away from the bar and will participate in this venture.

I checked my foretrex after our opening regatta last year , on the sunday when I rembered to reset it and look at it ,I discovered I had sailed 26 miles in two "short Course" windward leeward races coupled with 1 mile there n back to start .

Hate to think how far RHCC sailed whilst overshootin leeward mark a tad

I think the 'A''s are a bunch of panzies.... The N12 Burton Cup ( part of the N12 Nat Champ's ) has to have each leg of the course 1 mile long and consist of at least 4 laps ( 12 miles ), and this from a 12 ft, two man hiking boat.

Panzies, I doubt it.  But perhaps they don't want a long distance race.

We might bob around the bay all day trying to cover 30 miles or so, or we might get to the top of the first run, put our kites up and then have a screaming wire kite reach for a few miles.

I hope for the latter

Jack

you callin my m8 a pansie ?????

just cos he's got the long flowing locks , don't be fooled , he's descended from Vikings !!

takes balls to fly an A in a blow , the fact they don't want long distance race in their series has nothing to to do with bravado or lack of it ,

but if all sailors were as macho as int 12 sailors where would we be ?

and don't fret - I hear some of foresaid A's are planning to do the Loch Ness Monster 25 miles ea way - long enough ?

ps just incase it don't come across - just yanking yur chain

a fine scottish tradition

Anybody that sails a 'A' has to be a pansie otherwise they'd sail a Cat that needed you to be built like a brick out house pull up the slipway

great post from jack. you have to admire the irony of it from a guy that sails a boat, which looks more like patio furniture than a sailing boat.

Its a bit like graham norton telling mike tyson that he looks like a poof.

Irony... an Australians strong point.

And Mike Tyson is a poof he use to beat up women.

That remind's me I must chastise my 10 year old for not wanting to learn to sail in anything more extreme than this...

Dude, came into this all a bit late I see, and don't want to get into a bun fight, even though I'd win,  but when did Cap'n Jack trade in the 'Black Pearl' for an arm chair or whatever that is? on the above post.

CHILICAT.......SAILINIG FURTHER AND FASTER THAN YOU.......THATS WHAT A's DO YOU KNOW

looking forwards to pints with you all at Mumbles.(If I'm not too much of a pansy)

Since I got swallowed by a big slimey monster life has been a bit strange...er.

If the rest of my crew come and save me I will have to get a faster boat to out run that Kraken thing... you never know, if I'm still feeling very week and feeble I might even go for an 'A'.

Hope all you pansies have a good time at the Mumbles... top place for a bit of yatching. I'd love to come and play too but I am otherwise engadge in May, you know sorting out the 'East India Company', escaping terriable scrapes and fighting off Keria Knightly.

PS sink a couple of shandys for me, although I obviously prefer Jamacian Rum.

It was a great event, I'm still not sure what was better sailing or socialising?  I still believe Mumbles is the 'G' spot of Welsh Cat sailing even though the weather was suffering from PMT. But apart from the conditions I would like to thank all the competitors etc for taking the effort to participate and hopefully we will see you again soon.
If you were too lazy to check out the results Chris F narrowly beat Simon N in the A's and Dave T is the new F16 National Champ.

Mark forgot to mention a few "highlights".....

Some people went swimming (some twice).

Some people cannot count (now that really hurts when winning your first race at an F16 event )

But I think I can say that all people had a lot of fun and even tho we lost one day to silly winds and I broke the boat *(fixed soon).  It was a great event and well done to Mark for all the hard work and for Mumbles YC for hosting the event in some testing conditions.

Real shame the Welsh Cat event is the same weekend as the ECPR! (Mark I'll call you as they always announce the date for the following year at the end of the race prize giving) as I would have tried to do both.
