After unwrapping a pair of kef loudspeakers for christmas. They have now made my mind up that stairway to heaven is by far the greatest song ever recorded. God i love led zeppelin .
Anyone who says that pinkfloyd are better than zep are wildly mistaken! Nothing's better than a morning of zep turned right up.

I have to say it depends on the mood I am in.

Led Zep are one of the greats

Pink Floyd has a place there too.

Deep Purple must be there too, as must some Guns ‘n’ Roses, as must Clapton, Mike Oldfield, BB King, Robert Cray, Fleetwood Mac .  Need I go on…

I have a question.  How does one persuade the wife that I need a 5.1 or 7.1 surround system for my lounge when the PC already has 5.1.  Any ideas welcome.

I would like a 7.1 system for my room but i fear my dad would tell me to push off as i already have 5.1  Not bad for a 17 year olds bedroom eh?
Yes clpaton is one of my all time favourites but for pure just rocking out nothing comes closer than zep!
And scooby strap on a man sized pair and just buy it! Then install it when she's out!

Easy, she's not gonna be watching films on the computer, so she needs to have 5.1 system to enjoy films in the lounge, otherwise she just won't be experiencing the film's full potential.

And Alex all depends on whether you're 5.1 system is seperates and made of good components, though KEF speakers are good.

And as a general question what do ppl think the best film to test 5.1/7.1 systems out is, as at the moment my fav is the matrix lobby scene.

Which KEF's did you get? Whilst I enjoy STH I think it is probably a millstone around Zep's neck and that there is much better stuff in their catalogue. I guess most bands have a millstone..... Pink Floyd's probably being Another Brick in the Wall.

I highly recommend regressing to vinyl listening again - a good turntable sounds amazing!

Can't argue with some of the choices of music above - Pink Floyd, The Who, Led Zeppelin, BB King... all greats.

Ive got a pair of these bad boys,

They are from the cresta line and are really good! I have a sony digital audio/video control center (amp), with a JBL center and JPW Backs. ITs quite a kick ass system! The real test for a system is achilles last stand live.

Marantz Amp, Yamaha surround sound reciever, Technics CD player, Yamaha tape deck, Sony sub and mix of Mission and Gale speakers, oh and decent interconnects and speaker wire. I don't understand how ppl can spend plenty of money on components and then use door bell wire to connect the speakers up. Purchased years ago, too much spent on the boat recently.

I totally agree, but it is still a very good song. I think their best work is either achilles last stand, since i've been loving you , the rain song or no quater. Although i like pink floyd i dont think they are as good. And their best song for me is comfortabely numb

Dad has pretty much the same set up as you downstairs by the sounds of it. Mission fronts, gale center and gale backs. With a yamaha amp and sub

Bet you can't beat my sound system. Pictured here being modified to pick FM Stereo. Note - the old duffer usually sits in the box and has the compulsary monotone crackle voice.

Posted By: dics
Date Posted: 02 Feb 07 at 1:05pm

This is my mates. Note it is a later version as he has two old duffers - one for each speaker. I might upgrade someday but not so sure of the improved sound quality.

Posted By: dics
Date Posted: 02 Feb 07 at 1:16pm

This is what happens when you let too many old duffers out - they multiply. Note the duffer with beard. It's the first time he has been out of his box since 1812 (probably not a bad thing). A common side effect of this is that the old duffers will try to get back into their box at any opportunity - as pictured above.

Looks like a place I worked in recently!! I could name it but I won't. All I would say that it was a broadcast company and the engineers had clearly been exposed to too much RF!!

That doesn't count, that's a Zero88 lighting desk. If it's the 48 channel version I spent a lot of time sat behind one, before it was upgraded to a Strand fully computerised version! As for home.. Cambridge Audio amp and cd player, both of which died on seperate occasions this week and only the amp was covered by warranty

Ok fine, it wasn't mine anyway, in the background to this photo is an Allen & Heath 40 channel mixer which is, and in the foreground an avolites fully computerised desk which isn't. I didn't like the Zero 88 much, there were much better desks out there, and yeah i liked the strand, it was a nice desk to use. At the moment though mainly just using lightjockey, as using pretty much all moving lights it works fairly well.

I haven't touched a desk for over three years now, not really had the time/opportunity. We had the desk for moving lights but could never get the funding to buy some! Bit stupid really, the closest I got was setting up some Acrobats for a disco. Looks like a nice lot of kit though!
