This is the 14 year old kid who has just sailed the Atlantic solo and I can't find anything about him on Y&Y website.  Where is this news?  Surely this is something that brings people into sailing.  My work colleagues know I am interested in sailing and they are mentioning it at the water cooler and yet Y&Y does not report it.  What has the kid done wrong?  You are reporting the Velux race as if it means something when it is evidently a shambles.  Surely some credit is due, why the silence?

The reason we haven't reported on it is that we haven't received any news about it. On Yachts and Yachting Online we rely on people sending in their news to put it on the website. We don't have a team we can send around the world to cover events unfortunately.

If you are still interested in finding out, BBC News covered the story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/6226775.stm - (Clicky)

When it was shown on the news all the reports came in over Satellite Phone, so was distorted. If Y+Y sent reporters to all parts of the world, the magazine price would reflect that!!

Thanks for the links, but surely this is missing the point.  I believe that Y&Y is is the leading online/offline sailing resource in the UK.  Surely the Press Association are reporting this.  Is this not enough to get it connected to Y&Y?  I hope to find out everything about sailing from reading Y&Y.  Maybe I should go elsewhere?

Maybe you shouldnt be so pressumptious! If you want to hear about it. Maybe send in a report and a picture. Now stop complaining and go away. You are very boring

The news will be in the magazine - unfortunately I still haven't be able to find any press releases about the trip. Luckily it was so well reported in the mainstream media.

Big congratulations to Michael Perham from all of us at Y&Y!

Max there is no need to be like that, this story has been well covered in the news, and as mark said he cant produce anything without a press realease!!

Get over it and use the links if you are so desperate for news!!

Was it just me or did this escapade lack a little peril?  After all a fit 14 year old lad is likely to have the same level of physical presence as Ellen, so the noteworthy challenge would be not in handling the yacht but in independently skippering a boat alone on an ocean passage!  I'm not suggesting it was a walk in the park simply that having your Dad following you all the way is more of a tricky cruise in company. IMHO

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

If you were the Dad, would you want to be left behind? I just hope he isn't the ultimate oppie parent!

I would imagine there was plenty of peril during the trip, after all, a 14 year old may be as strong as Ellen but doesn't have 10's of thousands of sea miles under his belt. Good on him for doing it - wish I had had the funding at his age (or even now!). Shame they didn't have Y&Y's email address onboard, though!
