Looking for some software that could link a PC into a series of lights & handle the starting sequence for Multiple dinghy fleet racing. Sailwave is excellent at recording results, is there anyting available to get the start underway?

They use a system similar to what you want at Datchet Water, although it works through a speaker. Or they did last time I sailed there. It was developed by Mike Rothery.

Call the club or Mike Rogers at the Dinghy store. Maybe a more active Datchet member could shed more light.

The Medway Yacht Club uses a shore based computer assisted race management system which has a database containing details of boats, crews, racing programme, Portsmouth numbers and IRC numbers. It starts races automatically using lamps, a Klaxon horn and a numerical course display unit. Races may be started at 10 minute intervals and signals conform to RRS rule 26, except that the lamps display the Morse code equivalent of the flags where possible, providing a wide variety of warning signals, preparatory signals and commands. The software embodies the Racing Rules of Sailing to reduce the chance of mistakes by inexperienced race officers, allowing complex procedures to be executed correctly at the touch of a button. The lights are visible at a distance of at least 400 metres over a wide arc under any ambient light conditions, and the timing is linked to the NPL atomic clock via the radio transmissions from Rugby. Boats are timed in, and the corrected race results are automatically printed for individual races as soon as the last boat finishes.

Boomer - Is that system available commercially - If so, from where?

The Raceday system (see link above via Sailwave) seems to have all the features needed to do the start / timing / results but doesn't appear to link to a system of horns or lights /flags.
