Does anyone have any information on  weather  patterns for Qingdao at the time of year the Olympics will be on? Eg:  prevailing wind direction in morning, average windf strenghts for  different hours of the day, average wind direction and strenght for  the afternoon, are there any local  thermal breezes that are common?

All I have heard is thast there is bugger all wind!

The top two Radial Girls (Andrea and Penny) are flying out on August tenth, I'll have a chat with them when they get back! There are also quite a few newspaper articles, I will try and get hold of some. I am not going out until September...

I don't have a screen big enough to handle this thread (or the inclination to scroll around it)

What the hell happened with that scan Jon?

Yes, you can see all the weather in real time and forecasts via the Skandia Team GBR website that they are running to cover the Pre-Olympics. Check out the weather button on http://www.skandiateamgbr.com/2006preolympics - www.skandiateamgbr.com/2006preolympics

You will also see that the aforementioned Penny is today's overnight leader on the results after 2 races.

I hear that she has just chucked in her job with the Royal Navy to go sailing full time. Soon after she medalled at the Europeans.

Was it not light too for most of the week?

Maybe Penny is about to lead the Radial girls to a new level.

Some quality propoganda on the site.  If you read the forecasts it says the wind will be f3-4 and then 4-5 if you check out the actually bouy wind speed forecast it never gets above 6 knots.  Are chinese winds forces different?

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

6 knot max and apparently up to 2 knots of tide!

That'll make it interesting to watch on TV in 2008 - NOT!

Well no wind at all yesterday, 0.5 knot around lunchtime and this mornig 0845 overcast so less chance of any sea breeze such as it is and zero breeze

The PR machine is doing it's best (or should that be worst) to pull the wool over our eyes - the latest news item on the website it entitled "Strong Winds Blow Local Stars Back on Track(photos attached)".  The photos show 49ers marginally twin-wiring and Tornados bobbing about in very light winds.  "Although light winds led to postponement and cancellation of competition on the second and third day, most sailors said it was not a big deal."
