Topic: Wierd weather

Subject: Wierd weather

We had a front come through yesterday after we got off the water. So we were standing in the boat park putting the cover on and watching the sky get blacker and blacker over the bay. Then I notised there were little clouds growing very quickly about half way between the water surface and the cloud base and they were getting sucked up into the clouds above. A few of the columns started to twist a bit but nothing got big enough to turn into a proper twister. Still quite impressive and rather freaky for NE Scotland

Really wished I had a camera but my phone was in my bag in the club house.

Anyone seen any other freaky weather stuff resently?

well everwhere is now covered in sand and you have to stay inside as it really hurts you eyes with horozontily flying sand you cant see for more than 5ft(some sandstorms are worse than others but todays was really bad)

so what dose it look like when theres a storm coming. like a reguler storm of diffrent? do you get ligtning? dose it all go dead still first like when theres a big front coming? do the clouds go a funny color like when theres a hail storm coming? how is it freakier then a reguler storm?

).well there arnt usually any clouds in dubai.ummm they ussually last from day till night so i dont know if you can see it coming but i dont think so as the winds get up to 40-55 knots inside them(cant go sailing in one as cant see exess of five meters no no lightening.thogh just looked outside and the sand has calmed down a bit and the skys a really eiri orange.

no there random but being surronded by deserts not rare.did you look out the window when landing taking off?lots of desert

ps still dont know how to spell desert even thogh i live in one!did i spell it right

Yes you did. The camels, palm trees and Lawrence of Arabia type of location is "desert". The ice-cream, custard, strawberries and loads of chocolate (maybe not all at once) is "dessert".

no idea how its spelt. And yes I did know Dubai is pretty much surrounded by them.

dont really bother looking out much if its just somewere im transiting through, just try and get awake enough to find the next gate and then go back to sleep.

For Bejing to get sandstorms it needs the wind out of one direction for a while and I think that is only the prevailing wind for a couple of months or something. Wasnt paying that much atention cos I was only there for a week so I wasnt that bothered about what the wether was going to be like in 2 months time. It did snow when we were on the great wall of china though

Let's all go and take a relaxing break by looking at headfry's impressive cloud site...

At last an opportunity to bore people with my holiday photos!

The shot below was one of several taken at sunset when the 'Donuts' just appeared. They were actually much more striking tostart with, but it took me a while to think about and then find the camera. Quality could be better as it's a scanned print.

Also NE Scotland though so maybe there's something weird going on up there?

look what i found on it:

There is obviously some confidential low level cloud information that we're not allowed to see until the Society trusts us.

Shhhhhhhhh! It's low-level cloud information. Does it mean "low-level information on clouds" (something mere mortals are allowed to know) or "information on low-level clouds" (i.e. something to know about fog)? Whatever it means, don't tell anyone...

After 6 years in dubai i ahve never seen a 55mph sand storm. And why not go sailing. Mate of mine ewas racing lasers in qatar when one hit everyone got rerscued apart from him. he sailed to the nearest beach and went to the pub in the hotel. He wasnt most popular with organisers
