it isnt easy but aslong as you have taught before it is ok. just need to be confident and willing to keep learing.  not everyone passes.you can fail and have to do it again or just work on certian stuff.

Being a good sailor is a definate advantage. The course focuses a lot on teaching skills so if you are relatively confident (confidence grows throughout the course anyway) and know your stuff, it isn't too hard. Revising the sylabus for the course content you are going to teach makes things so much easier. Also try and get familiar to the boats you are using in the course, ie if you have to do a Man over board demo on a Wayfarer, be aware the boat carries more momentum than racing boats. On my course, it was suprising how many instructors had to get used to the Wayfarers again because they don't stop as easily as the lighter boats we race.

It can be on any aspect of dinghy sailing. When Mark took his instructor's course in April, he was asked to talk about assymetric dinghies: presentation, particularities, performances, etc. Another student had to talk about the effect of the tides on sailing. There are no trick questions, but you need to show you can stay calm and level-headed in all situations.

Mark spent a week in Cobnor and didn't want to leave! It's rather and intensive course (when you're an old man like him ) but there were plenty of games, good fun and a great atmosphere! I only wish I could sail well enough to do it too.

tis really easy to be honest. Dont worry about it now you get taught things as you do it and ya just have to learn some stuff. We had a theory test but the results didnt seem to affect anything and the practical isnt bad aslong as you have sailed before.Im sure you'll find it easy.

I think you mean the CEVNI test which covers the rules and regulations of the European inland waterways. Further details can be found on the RYA site.

Caution - not all EU countries use exactly the same rules even though they have signed up to the standards! But then, what's new in Europe?

Not really. The ICC is an international certificate and the CEVNI is a European certicate. See my previous reply to get an idea as to the diffference. If you do a CEVNI in the UK it will only apply to a UK registered boat  whilst you are abroad. Yes, I know this is the EU and we are harmonised and everything but not quite on everything

I would suggest that you do a CEVNI only if you really need to

Your Level 2 PB course can get you an ICC which is valid either for Inland or Coastal depending on where you do it.

If you do not have a Level 2 PB cert, you can do a CEVNI practical test along with the theoretical test. This is not equivalent to a Level 2 PB cert

The CEVNI is totally separate and if you use a boat in Europe, you will need to do one. If your CEVNI was done in the UK, it is only valid if you use a UK registered boat in Europe. Some countries will not recognise a UK cert on a non-UK registered boat (ie hired) and will make you take another CEVNI test for their country. No prizes for guessing which ones!
