Its like my childhood all over again when i saw nice fresh snow and would run to it like a small child to sweet shop (but i was never allowed sweets so had to get my kicks elsewhere) but then at the last moment just before i could leap with all my little joyous leaping skills my big bro pushed me into the muddy yukky slush you get round the edges, crushing my hopes and muddying the fresh white snow!  it hurt! it hurt so much!

you have to understand we never really got snow in manc when i was growing up

anyway yeah...like i said, long day!!!

I must admit life without the forum was strange, and I think my daily routine adjusted to suit....

I did some work about 6:30 yesterday...

BRILLIANT. I had a serious CODE BROWN when i realised the forum was down. Have attended uni more this week than previously in the whole term, didn't like it!

Thanks Mark and team, i was lost without the forum. I can vouch for Ben, Chris, Stu and Stu and we all felt the same way!!

Phew what a relief! I was getting serious withdrawal symptoms: I received a funny e-mail today and I didn't know what to do with it... totally helpless.

Thank you for restoring sanity in my world. I can relax in peace.

Mark can you shut it down again for about an hour and give us a quick e-mail before you start it up so I can be the first poster?

Good work getting it back up so quick, me and Les were that bored that we started to look at the International 49er site ......

I suppose I should tell you that the forum will be down for around half an hour on Friday morning (around 9.30am - 10am) as we move the database over to the shiny new server.

For those techy geeks out there, we are moving over to a twin Xeon 3.6Ghz (64 bit) server with 1Gb / second transfer rate. In real terms this is a minimum of 40 times more powerful than our current server. You don't want to know how much hosting a managed server like this costs...

I'm breaking my golden rule of never do any major IT changes on a Friday but what the hell - I'm not going through another Monday & Tuesday of watching the server go like treacle and nursing it to keep it running at all.

The IIS side of the server will be moving on Tuesday or Wednesday next week once I'm confident with IIS 6.0 (we're currently on IIS 5.0).

Fingers crossed it all works!

Good luck Mark,

I know the cost of building and maintaining a box like that, I soooo don't envy you!

Oh yes but Knightmare started with a bang! She joined just one year before you, tack'ho and managed to clock an average of 14 messages a day! Every single one of them meaningful and informative, of course

Now the poor thing is only a shadow of herself. She got herself a rehab treatment, involving a trip to Australia, sailing on tall ships... My heart bleeds

I hope you still enjoy it, Knightmare xxx
