Toby

As far as I am aware it's happening over the August Bank holiday weekend. No more detail than that. I'm planning on doing  the hurricane Nats the weekend before then pootling up to scotland to sail the tornado in the monster race

Hi Folks

I'm a Hurricane SX sailor on the SNECCA circuit.

Unfortunately, I am 99% certain that the Loch Ness Monster race has been cancelled this year. Apparently down to funding problems (not sure of details).

The good news however is that it may return next year. Lets hope so as it was a truly awesome event.

P.S. The SNECCA website hasn't been updated for a while but I believe it will be soon.

Just been confirmed. The event has been cancelled due to lack of funding. A real pity, I was looking forward to it.

Hopefully due to run in 2007

The Loch Ness Monster Race is definitely not happening this year, but will
happen in August 2007.

Time and sponsorship have meant that a definitive "go" wold be too late
for people's already busy calendars.

The Uniqueness of the Loch Ness Race is not just the fantastic course,
challlenge and scenery, but its remoteness, and as such, everything is
imported, including a host Club! This includes all rescue facilities as well.

2007 plans are now in their infancy, with Peterhead Sailing Club noting
interest in repeating their excellent Race Management of 2004.

The Race requires some external funding to cover the extra costs of
importing a complete management team and all rescue facilities, the
nearest Sailing / Yacht Club being a fair distance away.

Should anyone wish to tentatively put their name to this event, or assist in
any way, we would be delighted to hear from you, and can send a full
information pack based on the epic 2004 Race.

Please contact Richie Furber or Chris Browning of SNECCA for information

Monster fans

We now have more than 15 minutes daylight per day up here in Scotland,
and thaughts turn to the summer....

The Loch Ness Monster Race is PROVISIONALLY booked in for English
Bank Holiday weekend, to be run on Saturday 25th August, with Sunday
26th in reserve.

the 2004 Inaugural race was a roaring success, largely down to the
support from the English sailors that committed to the travelling for this
new event.
Having proved it's a belter, we want to double the numbers, and make
this a race to be reckoned with.

We are in negotiations with a title sponsor, and once this is concluded
(fingers crossed) there will be an announcement here and on
catamaran.co.uk shortly.

The race is run from a field in Dores, right next to the pub. The field in
which the 'Rock Ness' concert is held.

Once we make a formal annnouncement, we will be looking to confirm
numbers to ensure the rescue facilites are up to scratch.

Just to whet the appetite...!

If you are interested in sponsoring / supporting this event, let me know!
Having to import everything, including a host club and rescue facilities
takes some doing!

would love to come this year after nessie bit me arse last year and nearly sank me. 500 notes from the best back woman in scotland cant be bad but if its any thing like last time you would need to spend that in her surgery just to get straightend out again. anna says not a chance in coming because of the new baby thing but i reckon once its here she will mellow and let me out to play

Posted By: tornado435
Date Posted: 15 Feb 07 at 8:29am

Tell Anna she's  being a big girl!!

There is nothing like camping out in a field next to a pub with a new baby. Hopefully my new van will be up and running and Vicky and maybe Luke will be up

tried to telling her she was a big girl and she hit me with the nearest thing to hand wouldnt have minded but she was in the car at  the time. sprogs due on the saturday of the "minnis open" so with a bit of luck i can get a couple of races in, nip off to the hospital to say hi, then back to the club before closing time and still get sundays racing in before i am even missed.

Posted By: catmandoo
Date Posted: 15 Feb 07 at 4:24pm

sprogs ??? is one not enough ?

Good plans by the way , sure she won't mind, she'll probably have other things on her mind , especially if the sprogletts are in proportion with yur goodself

Sometimes you can't tell because the second one could be playing hide and seek.

Oz, as for the birth, its going to be one of your best days of your life. Also Hanna. should be in for 3 days, so you be ok to sail on Sunday.

When Max had to come home, she rung me up to come a collect her and the baby. Trouble was, I was on the 14th tee at the time, finished the round had a sandwich in the clubhouse then went to the hospital.

Prize for for single handers .

A classes threatening to come on mass for the ULtimate windward leeward race

I think distance covered last time was 45- 50 miles in under 4 hrs .

A pure belter of a race - none like it and the chance of being eaten alive by a true scottish monster , last edition was a MONSTER in all respects , faint haerted need not apply
