The website will do a far better job of explaining it than I, but shes basicaly just sailed solo, non-stop around the globe AGAINST the prevailing wind and current with far less than ellen levels of equipent and support.

Wow.....So lets get this straight she's done something that someone else did a long time ago, in a bigger boat.....let me contain my obvious excitement.

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

She managed to get a column of print in one of the sunday papers, so there has been some publicity. I suppose this is news worthy if you believe that records should be set by gender. As far as sailing is concerned, I confess to being in 2 minds as to whether they need to be. Trips like this tend to appeal to men more, so they have a greater likelihood of holding the record - I think Ellen has proved that there is no reason why women should be any slower.

On the contrary, it has had quite a lot of coverage in the sailing media. I can't say I'm personally interested. What she is doing doesn't seem very ground-breaking to me. People (i.e men) were doing this kind of thing 30+ years ago.

The few two people to climb Everest got worldwide coverage. Does anyone other than their friends and family care who does it now that 2000+ people have summited? Same thing: old news.
