I am going to be spending several months in the south of France this summer and whist I am there I have been offered the use of a Beneteau Wizz.  I have had a look on the internet but have been unable to find much information about the dinghy and what I have has been in French (I am learning).  I was wondering if anybody out there has sailed this dinghy and could tell me what they are like and point me towards any sites.

cheers

there is one on ebay at the moment, just type in dinghy for the search and it will come up on one of the pages, there is one tucked away at our club which im thinking of grabbing and turning into something nippy as it is just the hull that is there and they are meant to be quite quick...

reckon if i can get hold of the one at my club i could easily do sum mods and make a pocket rocket out of it yet, not sure if the gunwales would take the loads of a trapeze tho...

Chris, how much does the boat actually weigh, is she quite light? Looks like it could be a bit of a rocket ship with the right sails and a carbon rig. The hull looks like it should plain pretty easily

The Wizz has a displacement weight of 70kg so a rocket it could well become if set right

the hull alone when i first discovered it at the very distant corner of our club felt quite light and very robust so im becoming more and more tempted to try something it looks like it could be made into a quick 2 hander or even more interesting single hander... i was thiking for singlehander along the lines of old 200 or 3000 kite mayb, old moth sail, shortened 600 mast or there abouts, i already have a carbon bowsprit and foils are easy enough to make.

what i have on it so far:

Start of Manufacture: 1982
End of Manufacture:
Number Built:
Type: Sport Dinghy
Design: Jean-Marie Finot
Hull Type: Fibreglass Centreboarder
Hull Length (m): 4.40
Maximum Beam (m): 1.62
Sail Area (m2): 13.50
Displacement Weight (t): 0.070

Bow-sprit on a 1982 design, that's pretty cutting edge for that era. Not too sure how the hull would cope with a rig generating high loads though.

well it didnt originally have a bowsprit , its a modification that this guy has put on, it says how he did it on the web page. But it orginally had a white sail area of 13 odd square metres.

'Lack' is paint in English, by the way.  Might help you get a more sensible response from the CVRDA Smile

Don't hear that too often in dinghies - I wish my crew said it to me instead of groaning when we need to tack!
[N.B. remark made for humorous effect only (should my crew ever read this thread)]
