how about this for a school competition! http://www.greenpower.co.uk - www.greenpower.co.uk  bet you oldies didnt have things like car racing!

I would just like to show any teachers on this forum (aka bns) what schools can do as a fun engineering activity!  hint hint get your school involved or any young people ask your teachers!

p.s yes i do have a car in it

Hurricane, an excellent link.  Good luck with the car  A good project for all you development class sailors I would think.

(Oh & BTW, there were similar competitions when I was at school, run by BP an Shell. However, fuel cells and solar panels weren't exactly state of the art then.)

ahh well thats the shell eco marathon, one or two of the teams also enter that the problem is the large bugets some of the teams have for that, greenpower tends to be low buget but some of the cars produced are mind blowing!

You may be the spell checker but your grammar is a little suspect!

I thought I was the....would be correct english.  Otherwise it is unclear who was doing the thinking.  You could probably live with a comma where the smiley face is as well. A better constructed sentence may read: I'm sure a few of the 5K sailors thought I was the spell checker on here.

This is all BNS's fault you know, she started it.

How do you damage so many boats in such a short space of time?

I wasn't being heavy handed!!!! I have pulled fitting's off boats before...but that was cos they hadn't been screwed into the deck properly!!!

But the reason my 4k mast broke was cos the new shroud hadn't been crimped properly so as soon as the mast came under tension the new shroud "fell apart" hence making the mast fall down and it took my main, kite and boom with it!

The reason the rs200 kite pole broke was cos we gybed and hit someone (he was ok!) and it bent the kite pole....I still don't know how we bent the mast though....we didnt turtle the boat so it wasn't that......but we did have a lot of wind on sat!!!

ok now can you lot stop playing me up about this!!!!! it's really great how when things go right it's the helm's responsibilty....when thing's go wrong....it's the crew's fault!!!!! NOT FAIR!

We did have a lot of wind on Saturday.  Just before the squall came through and everyone started carefully placing their boats on their sides (skittles) we had recorded a 33 knot gust.  We did not record the peak of the squall, I think Arkie was taking cover inside the committee boat.

BTW - what do you call a woman who has lost her helm after he had a monster drinking session on the saturday night - my wife tells me that she learnt some new words!!

Ah!  That would have been me then as I was running the bar.  In my defence I did not serve your helm after about 2200, but others did keep feeding him Rum and coke's - we finally got him to go to bed at about 0130

4.5 litres of assorted rum, 1 litre of gin, 0.5 litre brandy, 9 gallons of draught bitter, 9 gallons of draught lager, and god alone knows how much bottled beer was drunk on Saturday night.

The RS200 fleet should come with a health warning

You have a rep at Burton Sailing Club now, that is for certain.

Hope you all enjoyed it, (despite the aches after Saturday's wind),  we certainly enjoyed having you.
