happy posting

No swearing please, remember young people are present and it doesn't represent the sport in a good light, think that little matter of being disqualified in races for abusive language should say a lot.....

Are you still allowed to swear when the crew shoves the spinnaker pole back into your face and blood is pouring everywhere? This happened to me sometime in the 80's, and I can't remember any complaints about my language, but then I was lying in the bottom of the boat, so may have missed it!

i think all the members that dont post more than once get a visit from the "you-havent-posted-in-this-month-forumite-eating-beast" but that must only happen before you get your second star because otherwise whenever people went on holiday the "you-havent-posted-in-this-month-forumite-eating-beast" would eat all the loyal posters who took a well deserved break.

Funnily enough, not so many Laser sailors are frequent posters (I mean, hardened-up, full rig run-of-the-mill, hiking-shorts clad Laser sailor - L4000 isn't quite the same, innit Luke?)

Out of curiosity, I'd like to run an opinion survey amongst our most frequent posters (of school age, especially):

Do you think that the sheer bulk of your postings on Y&Y forums helped to improve your writing skills at all?
And you old biddies (oops, you more mature, maybe more literate, but oh so respected members), before some of the older generation start a sniggering rant, please bear in mind that those little ones started from below ground level !

That's never stopped CFC, Knightmare, me and countless others/QUOTE]

That may also be one thing putting newer folk off as reading through the forums you find alot of posts by the same people and from the impression that is given alot of you seem to know each other. This may be from the forum or else where.

That could put alot of folk off imho. That being said you all give a very warm welcome so i could just be talking pants it is however 01:15 ish and I'm at work which is pants in its self.

ps i was going to post in the for the newbe thread but i felt a bit old at just the right side of 40 and i mean just! (not for much longer)

You're probably right and some people might have been put off, but many joined the forum and stayed and became active members because of the dynamics of it. There's no recipe here, just a little self-regulation applied every now and then when a thread turns into a sub-MSN chat. I've noticed that people are less prone to pointless "lol-omg-agh" comments these days.

Some of us have become friends through the forum and I've met many interesting, enthusiastic and vibrant people thanks to this (Contender443 doesn't count, he was there before me ).

Work? At this time of day? Are you ill? Are you mad? Are you well-paid for it???
Could be worse, mind you... at least you can read Y&Y online !

Finally, the right side of 40 changes sides as soon as you hit 40... Ask BWD, Contender443 and a few others, they'll confirm. As for me, I'm going to be 39 this year and I am determined to remain 39 for the next 10 years. Think positive and don't blush when you're lying!

my postings here have only helped my typing speed. i think its ruined my chances of passing spanish because most of the time im here im meant to be reading through my spanish folder. it hasnt improved my reactions in the same way as the others because the school blocks nearly everything.
