The previous owner of my boat decided that he would cover a portion of the deck with masking tape in order to write the course on.  I think this looks fairly unsightly but attempts to remove have left a residue of glue on the gelcoat that seems to resist all efforts to shift it.  I've tried Gelcoat cleaner, Isopropyl Alcohol, hot water.  Anyone got any ideas?

sandpaper?  always seems to be a good start.  Petrol's a great one to try to.  Or hydrochloric acid to burn it off

Sandpaper?  On gelcoat?  Really?

Actually, I've just tried Amberkleene, an aerosol solvent degreaser.  That worked like a charm.  Hope the deck is still there tomorrow.....

acetone all the way! took the glue from the progrip on our 29er str8 off with no probs at all. if it doesnt come off immediatly leave a bit on a cloth and lay it over the adhesive you want to clean off, it will soften the glue, and then rub it off with another cloth, then clean thoroughly with water. (obviously dont put so much on that it softens the gelcoat too much!)
