What do people think of the RYA changing its logo from an iconic work of art to a dull as dishwater plain typeface ?

It looks like they've been taken over by Ryvita

Why do they bother?. Has anyone, anywhere, ever been impressed or moved by one of these rebounding?. It's like "mission statements", just another think to reduce the level of human happiness.

Drove past the offices in Hamble yesterday and they are all still branded with the old logo. Maybe they don't even like the new logo themselves!?

when doing a rebrand    you  really need to have a  key  venues  rebranded  ready to go on launch

whether that is  HQ or your  flagship store ( for  retailers etc)

vehicles etc  you can always  fudge it a bit - the only  mass logo change i know  that was done overnight  was when all the NHS  ambulance  services in Yorkshire merged  in 'Yorkshire ambulance service'

becasue the  change of  vehicle  markings as achieved with  heast  guns / acetone soaked rags and a scraper

scrape off  the ' South' from South Yorkshire ambulance Service  vehicles

'West' and 'Metropolitan' from West Yorkshire Metropolitan ambulance service  vehicle

and 'Tees, East and North' from the TENYAS vehicles  that moved to YAS  ( as  some of the Tees stuff  moved to North East  Ambulance )

they all kept their old text on the heraldic crest  ( if   fitted  as many SYAS weren't  just a big  blue NHS  lozenge) until  struck from service or had to go through the bodyshop for  accident damage

ok so the old logo was   quite  cheesy  in a 70s / 80s  kind of way but it was distinctive   and it;s not as if they  have dones a IYRU > World Sailing  type  rebrand  ( as 'UK Sailing'  wouldn't  represent all their activities )

it's great - good on them for moving on with the times.... next step, dump the R 'royal' bit.

in fact, dump the Y 'yachting' bit too.

Nothing wrong with A - 'association' per say, but it's a bit superfluous given the represent the interests of groups and people who are not necessarily in membership.

They could go the full hog and rebrand themselves 'Watersports UK'  and make themselves truly relevant to a wider community... although I get that might have other connotations too, worth the risk imho.

the problem is that would  piss off the BCU  and the  bigot collective that is  UK Rowing  to say the least

I tend to agree that Royal Yachting Association doesn't really do what it says on the tin. I think the Royal support is invaluable and shouldn't be lost in a rebrand. There are few other sports that get the royal seal of approval. Royal Watersports Association might be a more suitable name though!

AFAIK the BCU haven;t done anything dreadful yet

the Rowing lot  prefer to listen to  the witless and irrelevant and Putin funded agitators  rather than the  evidence

Don't forget the BKA, UKWA (and countless other watercraft owner/racer organisations).

Really? Royalist majority is a thing, unfortunately. But being a Christian is definitely not a majority thing . Current figures are that less that 4% of the uk go to church regularly. 😀

Plus I see no importance or relevancy to this discussion that your white ………… or green or yellow or red or any other colour for that matter.
Other than sailing is a very white sport , which is it’s loss.  Confused

Duncan, Christian and White thing added to refer to how in certain circles, White people should be ignored (naturally bigoted) and to refer to NicolaJaynes bigot post. What she is referring to regarding Rowing UK, cannot be discussed on here, a 5 feet 6 inch 9 stone rower comprehensively thrashed in a race by a 6 feet 2 inch 18 stone rower. (general figures but close enough). Rowing GB asked Putin for advice he replied, "Easy have separate races".
Closest I can come to issue without causing ructions we had earlier, Google Rowing GB 'Latest news.

    Edited to add,

You don't have to go to Church/Chapel to be a Christian, I am a non denominational Christian, I don't go due to total lack of leadership, Church should be campaigning against rampant profiteering etc.
