Olympic sailing is supposed to be the pinnacle of sailing, to my mind this isn’t. With the odd 470 pumping only the ILCAs worth following.

It looks as if all the new classes seem to have been chosen for their suitability for TV. This has been going on for years though, the last grass roots class to be adopted was the L@ser (not that grass roots classes were much in evidence historically anyway).

So Star was last keel boat? Thought they were looking for a mixed cheap keel boat?

The two-person, mixed offshore keelboat event was dropped. Everyone knew it was a) not suitable for tv, b) not realistically followable by anyone, let alone non sailors.

Perhaps black shows better on TV.

I will admit to having no great interest in the foiling classes (kites / boards / nacra) but that’s because it’s not something I relate to with my sailing, I don’t think it’s any less skill full and athletic.

What about the 49er fleets, they are still sailing not just kinetics and they are very well sailed.

The laser fleet doesn’t much inspire me to be honest and I don’t think it’s makes good viewing in any medium.

Always found the 470's a good watch and now they're mixed even more so.....hopefully.
