Not sure this doesn't strictly counts as dinghy development, but can anyone help my identify this boat on behalf of a neighbour.

It is 14"2' long, metal centre plate, wooden clinker, might even have been rigged for a spinnaker.

I first thought it was a YW Dayboat, but curved bow doesn't look right for a YW DB.

Any thoughts?

There were a thousand and one local one designs of that sort of type. If the area its from and especially which BSC it was associated with that might help.

The boat is currently in Hampshire....it has no known connection with any sailing club.

I wonder if BSC might be Bosham or Bembridge?

or Itchenor SC, lots of old clinkies on moorings there.

It looks vaguely like an RNSA 14 or Uffa Fox Island class at the bow, but these had no decks.

The Brightlingsea One Design is 18' long - information here:  http://brightlingseaonedesign.com/the-fleet/" rel="nofollow - https://brightlingseaonedesign.com/the-fleet/

I agree with fogliettaz, it is very reminiscent of a Blackwater Sprite (14' long) from Blackwater Sailing Club - they still race them.  http://www.cvrda.org/dinghydata/blackwater-sprite/" rel="nofollow - http://www.cvrda.org/dinghydata/blackwater-sprite/ .  My father had one many moons ago, which is how I started sailing.

I'm coming to the view that the boat is a Blackwater Sprite, as it is too short to be a Brightlingsea or an Emsworth One Design.    Slightly strange it has found its way to Hampshire.

It seems to be in reasonable condition, so probably worth restoring.

Any suggestions on how to find someone who would be interested in restoring it? I could advertise it in the usual places  but that might miss the right audience.  I'll try the CVRDA.

(The Sprite association had a web site but it is down at the moment.)

These things tend to be worth more and appreciated more in their home fleets, so I would try contacting any clubs which sail them, or class association if there is one. I wouldn't take our ID as definite though! I'm sure someone at Blackwater SC would forward an email?

Folks, in my PY database there are thirteen old school style local one designs from the 60s that have 14 in the name. I bet there are at least double that which were in the same sort of size range, and many more that never got as far as published numbers. It looks a bit like an xxx really doesn't cut it: there are so many options. Without some kind of provenance or lucking on someone who is really familiar with the actual class I think the chances of a safe id are not good.

Don't think it's an Emsworth one design
