Am I missing something when running a mini series on an evening for club members I end up setting up 4 separate races and then people have to log into each one.
Is there a way of setting up 4 races in one hit with the site doing the results?
Turns into a right hassle when it spits you out before saving the results of a race. Not to mention people using names to close to the same and people joining in without telling you.

Yes we have to log in for each race and it seems the system doesn't save results either. Or if it does we haven't fathomed it out yet!

*Note to self*: When we're back on the water I can't simply go crashing through boats, on port, thinking "<phhht!> I'll just take the few seconds penalty" LOL

Screenshot the results or even photo graph them

It's rubbish. And the communication with the developers is poor.

You are right. You should be able to set up a series etc. Even pick who can join. But it probably does not fit the online world. And I suspect few will keep playing when they are allowed back on the water.

We are scoring on Appendix A. You'll note they score high points.

We have a zoom audio call (video affects bandwidth too much especially if two or three sailing and slow internet) and a WhatsApp group running alongside so new races being posted people know to join.

Been doing some interclub faces too. 10 v 10.

I reckon the whole thing is sponsored by the boat repair shops who know I'm going to just sail through someone because I was on starboard (it's taken me a long time to learn not to avoid them online!!)

I think that is very harsh.  It’s fun.  Not as fun as the real thing, but I doubt a global pandemic was in their thinking when they made it.

But it is free for RYA affiliated Clubs, so shouldn't really grumble.

Well it is free. Although, let's be clear that is exceptional marketing

Several of our guys have bought their own VIP accounts, I've certainly bought green tokens.

I can see uses post lockdown.

# Windy day, too windy to sail. (Or no wind)
# want to address a specific scenario for coaching (5 minute race Vs an hour on the water)
# potential for a winter series when we close down normally

We get lots of people crashing out. Someone said if your iPhone notifies anything like 'low battery' it kicks you out.

They've spent time developing dolphins jumping and city backgrounds.

There would be demand for more boats, potentially other courses (not venues), ability to replay a situation to understand what went wrong with a rule. And undoubtedly a rules engine that understands the need to allow the other boat time to react - tack onto starboard 1mm Infront of a boat on port.

Some way to retrieve results just feels such a basic request, it's been requested for 2 years at least. Totally ignored. That is the biggest failing in my opinion. Frustrating that it would be a very simple build...

They must be doing something right. Just had our Sunday morning regatta and the turnout was about the same as we would get at the Club on the water! Great fun and our dedicated WhatsApp group is alive with banter and advice before during and after the racing. Really look forward to Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings now.

It’s not quite the same, there is no capsized enterprise and I am not retiring half way though the race lol LOLLOLSmile

Not sure what is the hardest, trying to get the gybing angles right in a Nacra or cope with you actually finishing a race. We live in very strange times.

Does anyone know if the venue chosen for a race makes any difference to the way the app generates changes to wind strength and direction?

Yes it does.
