I have a couple of optimists where the inner tube has perished and the tyres no longer hold air. I was looking to buy some of the non inflatable wheels that are quite popular but they are not cheap. Has anyone else just used some expanding foam or tyre foam to fill the tyre and then essentially have a solid wheel. Given the light weight of optimists I thought it might be worth a go as they will only get thrown otherwise.

Builders expanding foam will soak water and disintegrate pretty quickly, tyre foam does not fill there tyre but seals a small puncture and the propellent in the can then inflates the tyre. Cheapest way is to just replace the tubes.
