Amazing venue, amazing boats, amazing sailors

The Olympics need to get all these guys who do the coverage, filming etc - way better than Rio coverage

Its wonderful " proper" racing.

Shame that most televised sailing has been turned into a playstation game in its failed attempt to get non sailors to view.

Watching the finals tonight. The best sailors from lots of classes, old fashioned boats, light winds, but absolutely nail biting to watch and anything but a procession. There's something fundamentally wrong in equating fast 'crash and burn' racing with good, engaging telly (and Percy is in the lead on teh final leg too!)

It was a bit like air rowing on the final leg though, I still think sailing is better when rule 42 is switched on.

It is a balancing act, too much graphics and the sailing is lost. I am sure for the live AC you could have it small in the corner and turn bits of it off.

I doubt many if any arm chair sports junkies are now knocking on the doors of their local club.
I got into a social media debate over the Sail GP with a lady from middle America with no knowledge about sailing but she enjoyed watching the racing. I suppose if the viewing figures attract sponsors and see get to see the live feed that positive outweighs the negatives.

The TV guys job is to get people watching TV instead of going sailing*.

* Or whatever alternative activity/sport/pastime you participate in.

They look great ipwind, but the downwind rocking just looks silly.
Proper keelboats have spinnakers.
If you ever get a chance to have a go in a Dragon, Etchells, 5.5metre  or similar, grab it.
