Anyone got a sensible PN for a Hartley 12, una rig Dacron sail with vertical battens? I can only find 1350 which is Topper-slow. Cant the manufacturer suggest something reasonable?

Have you sailed it against a Topper ?

No danger of me sailing them. Club bought two of them, first outing today and one did very well. No way are these Topper-speed

Just work back from the timings once you have a few results, then adjust as more data comes in. Also cross check positions if the helms sail other boats regularly.

It isnt down to the manufacturer to suggest a number. Quite a few of them avoid the subject completely.

Best bet is for your club to give you a starting point and work from there. If the results are wildly different from your previous ones then asjudt the number as required.

I'd have said Topaz Race X would be closer than Topper, 1200ish rather than 1363, the H12 is similar length and has roughly the same sail area as the Race X so performance shouldn't be radically different.

Radical suggestion, but why not ring up Mark at Hartleys and ask him?

At least a credible starting point that your club can adjust from

Seafarers SC are using 1200 for the 12.
