I obtained a used RS200 that had the spinnaker tack line
through bowsprit replaced. The knot/bobble in bowsprit line seems too short
preventing inner pole extension more than about ½ length. My question is how
far should the inner bowsprit pole extend forward, as long as possible? Thanks |

I think it should be similar in length to the outside of the pole (but from where it comes out).
I don't know the exact measurement , but on my boat it comes out fully with some length left in the tack line before the knot. Then we can use that to pull the tack of the kite to the end of the bowsprit. I'm not an expert, don't take my word for it. |

If you are just blasting or club handicap racing then set it up so that the inboard end of the pole is about 9" or a little more from where it emerges from the stem. On the Spice there is a webbing strap over the pole just inside the hole, if the 200 has similar set the limit line so the pole is still under this when it's fully extended. Play safe as few inches will make no significant difference in performance. Hopefully an RS200 sailor will measure his for you so you can have it exactly right but in the meantime just go sailing.

In the pre 1700 sail numbers, there is a rivet stopping the inner pole going out too far. The simple answer is that you increase the tack line until the stopper knot on the outside of the pole extends beyond the pole and then shorten it. If you are just wanting the length of the tack line rope, I think I have a spare one in my bits box, but am away from home at the moment so can't measure it. Back home tomorrow eveing, so let me know if you need the length.

I have hull 1044. So I can just fully extend inner pole until it hits the end stop. Thanks

I would tighten the tack line so it stops a few mm short of the rivet as the rivet will eventually fatigue if you hit it every time you hoist the spinnaker, but essentially you want the pole out as far as possible. |
