I've got a length of Marlow Dyneema Excel, it's going to be a replacement main halyard for our club Laser 2. It will be cleated off on a normal horned cleat.

We don't race it so no issues there. However it is really oily. I've read somewhere that it's best to wash it before use. Is this correct?

I have put the ropes of my boats in the washing machine, never had any problems, not sure about oil though.

Put it in a mesh bag or pillowcase though or you'll be dismantling the washer to get it out Embarrassed

actually oily ?  or  more that the cover feels slick and polished compared to  cheap rope ?
