Does anyone know what grade of aluminium you need for masts/booms etc ?
Round type similar to Laser.

I believe its specially heat treated, I'm not sure its a standard grade. I have used standard grade alloy for a boom when I was broke though, I used 4 inch and cut lots of holes in the less stressed areas for weight and it lasted for years.

The holes are mostly behind the sleeve for the mainsheet, but you get the idea...

I am attempting to set up a supply chain for Minisail owners, contact I have for Aluminium wanted to know what grade, he can get different grades, though he has just supplied what he had in stock and had no complaints.

We did this for Laser top sections years ago.
Managed to get some tube through Blackburn metals:
6082 T6 2"x14SWGx6.7m
But it wasn't anodised and the 6.7m length didn't work out for the 3.7m top section.
More hassle than it was worth.

On the other hand I have found many practical applications for busted top sections, including a Miracle boom and squirrel proof dove cot posts.
