Great to see a Brit in front and absolutely huge respect to Paul Goodison.....that's an astonishing win by such a huge margin.

So, question......is that there in Garda the highest quality fleet of sailors ever assembled anywhere in one place, competing in one design?....

Yep it's a dominant performance all being told. Hats off to him.
I would say that the racing is not as deep in quality as finals level grade 1 ie worlds or Kiel week/hollland regatta / hyeres racing in some of the olympic classes. The games themselves are a bit easier as the one team per nation rule.
There are weekend warriors (albeit very accomplished ones) getting in the top 10.
The ac guys also generally only doing the moth racing when they get a chance, some Olympic guys who fit some in round the day jobs.
The Olympic classes world champs once you get into gold fleet nobody inside the top 50 is doing less than 150 days a year of top class racing and training, and any of them could win nationals and worlds on equivalent non Olympic classes.
I think this is why the guys with laser and 49er backgrounds did better in the finals - they are used to racing where you are pretty Much always having to sail reactively to other boats and make big decisions very quickly because the spread from first to last is so small.

I believe thin air had originally intended to be at Garda when launched but have had some slippage. Think it's on the lennon website.

Sounds good to me. It's amusing that a couple of weeks ago a lot of armchair experts were saying that the AC proved that if you wanted to win on foils you had to be a young gun from a high-performance class, and now all the YGFAHPC have been cleaned up by an "old" Laser sailor.

I found that something like the last beat of a Laser championships required faster reactions than something like slalom windsurfer racing at world titles; it wasn't just the spread but the way that the situation could change as boats tack so quickly, and when one boat would tack it could cause a ripple effect as everyone else reacted. It was almost like a flock of birds in flight or a school of fish, with everyone reacting off each other.

Probably it's easier for a guy coming from a 49er to jump on a moth and jibe than for a guy coming from a laser.

But once they learn the tricks, good sailors are good sailors. And at the worlds you could clearly see the laser guys (Goodison, Slingsby, Burton) definitely have a slight advantage upwind due to better hiking tecnique and endurance.
